Microsoft could be phasing out Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360. The company has reportedly already begun removing points from music and movie purchases and rentals from Windows 8, its upcoming operating system. When/if the changes take place, consumers will be able to pay for digital content in actual money instead of a weird imaginary currency.
Previously, in Windows 8 betas, older versions of the OS and the 360, Microsoft used its points system for all video purchases and rentals, but now, Windows 8 defaults to actual monetary amounts, although you can still pay in points if you'd like.
Right now, the changes appear only on PCs running beta copies of Windows 8, but there seems to be a very good chance that the dashboard update coming later this month to the 360 will phase in the change... at least, I sincerely hope so. I'm terrible at math, so converting points to dollars in my head is practically impossible.
What do you think? Are you ready for the death of points?
