The October 30, 2012 release of Assassin's Creed 3 is still weeks away, and now a newly revealed Xbox 360 Achievements list at Xbox360Achievements.org is here to taunt you with features and content that we hadn't even heard about yet in previews. There aren't any story spoilers here, but there are some surprises in the cheevo rundown, so read on at your own risk.
We hadn't heard about "the Homestead" before, apparently Connor's home base in the game based on Achievements relating to upgrading that location and recruiting "Artisans" to settle there, sort of like you did with Monteriggioni in Assassin's Creed 2. In addition to recruiting Artisans, you can also look forward to cheevos for playing early board games like Fanorona and decoarting you manor with "Franklin's inventions," presumably a reference to Ben Franklin since a later Achievement rewards you for finding the pages of his Almanacs.
It sounds like the naval combat that was revealed at E3 2012 is a sizable part of the game as well, with 12 "Privateer Contracts" for players to complete aboard their ship, the Aquila, along with some others, apparently. The Aquila is upgradeable as well; it's not clear what you'll be able to boost it with, but the multiple cannon shot types we've seen in recent demos are presumably part of that upgrade mechanic.
There's more too. Several Achievements are tied to "Clubs," which Ubi previously hinted tie to some of the game's hunting challenges. You can also boost your gamerscore for completing "Progress Tracker" grid entries, probably in the Frontier. The one that raises the biggest questions for me is a 20GS reward for liberating "all districts in Boston OR New York." Why would it be an "or," not an "and"?
There's more to be found on the Achievements list, including an assortment of rewards for doing cool, assassin-y things, like performing a double assassination with a musket. Now ponder all of this and try to relax as you mark another day off the calendar during this slow march to October 30.
