Apple has officially revealed the iPhone 5. At an event held this morning, Apple president Tim Cook showed off the iPhone 5 to a gathering of press and the Apple-faithful, calling it an "absolute jewel" and the "most beautiful product we have ever made."
It comes in three models: $199 for the 16GB version. $299 for 32GB version, and $399 for 64GB version. The new Apple phone ships on September 21, but pre-orders will begin on the 14th. As you might have predicted, the iPhone 4 is now free for those with a contract, and the 4S is $99.

The iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone that Apple has ever made. It's only 7.6mm thick, which is 18% thinner than the last iPhone. It comes in both black and white
The iPhone 5 features a 4-inches, 326ppi Retina display, with 1136 x 640 resolution. It is the same width as the old phone, but it's longer. Apple is calling its iPhone 5 wireless "Ultrafast Wireless," and it features a single chip for voice and data, and a single radio chip too. Apple says the A6 chip at the heart of the device offers graphics that are twice as fast as the current generation of Apple phones. The battery will last 8 hours with 3G use or LTE talk time or browsing, and 10 hours of WiFi browsing.
One use of the better graphics for the new phone is, of course, games! At the press event, Apple showed off EA's Real Racing 3, coming later this year.

The iPhone 5 features a 1080p, 8megapixel camera with Dynamic Low Light Performance, Precision Lens Adjustment, Faster Photo Capture, Panorama Mode, a 5-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. Onboard video stabilization takes out blurs and artifacts in your video and stills.
Even the front-facing camera is HD, coming in at 720p. There are three microphones on the new device, on the front, back and the bottom of the device.

The iPhone 5 will feature a new power cord, that's smaller, "all digital" and can be plugged in either way.
