EverQuest 2 has been kicking around since 2004, and now Sony Online Entertainment is preparing to release the popular MMORPG's ninth official expansion pack, entitled Chains of Eternity. The content is due to arrive sometime in November 2012, adding an assortment new stuff for players to enjoy in their wanderings around Norrath.
News of the expansion is confirmed by EverQuest 2 producer Holly Longdale in a post to the game's official SOE forums (via Polygon). Chains of Eternity sends players off into Ethernere, EverQuest's realm of the dead, in a quest to save the both the living world and the dead from disaster. What this amounts to is two Ethernere overlands modeled after Norrath's Feerrott and Loping Plains.
As players explore the new regions, they can look forward to finding nine new instanced dungeons and additional development in the Ages End Prophecy plotline. Special raid events are planned to support the new story and those who play through the content can look forward to "benefits as a result of their heroic acts and... rewards for replaying content."
The expansion also enhances other aspects of the game, with the Adventure, Tradeskill, and Guild Level caps all topping out at 95. You'll also be able to unlock new Prestige and Tradeskill Prestige abilities as well as power up the new adornment type, Organic Adornments.
Full disclosure: I've never played a second of EverQuest 2 before -- not knocking it, it's just hard to find the time to fully commit to an MMO with the work I do -- but the above features appear to be the most salient bits. EQ2 regulars will no doubt want to take a look at Longdale's post for themselves to get a more complete sense of what's coming.
