Take THAT, Half-Life 3! The long-in-development fan-made Half-Life HD remake, Black Mesa, is finally going to be released for the public on September 14, 2012 (via Joystiq). You can follow the second-to-second waiting action on the official Black Mesa Source website, which now greets you with a countdown timer.
Black Mesa is the product of a years-long effort that started back in 2004, after Half-Life 2 was released. A team made up of fans set out to put together a remake of the then-new sequel's predecessor in Valve's Source engine. The project has evolved over the years, as we've seen in both public and leaked appearances, but it's now finally ready to be played by one and all.
