The verdict in the infringement lawsuit between tech giants Apple and Samsung has been reached. The California jury found that Samsung devices infringed on Apple patents, including multi-touch gestures, scroll, zooming and other navigation features.
The damages: $1,051,855,000.
Samsung's counter-claim that Apple infringed on Samsung's technology were all denied, so no damages will be awarded to Samsung from Apple.
According to the jury, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 did not infringe on Apple's tablet designs, but aspects of Samsung's phones did infringe on the design of Apple's products. So not every claim against Samsung was upheld, but most of them were. This is a decisive victory for Apple, and is likely to have tremendous repercussions in the world of cell phones and tablets.
Apple Corp. filed the lawsuit in April 2011 asking for $2.5 billion from Samsung Electronics Co. for infringing on various aspects of the design and technology of Apple products.
This is most likely not the end of the case. An appeal is almost certain.
We'll have more analysis of the verdict and what it means in the coming days, so check back!
