Prey 2 has been removed from Bethesda's website as an upcoming game. The game has been the subject of some serious drama thanks to some development hiccups at Human Head Studios. In April Bethesda confirmed Prey 2 was not canceled, but wouldn't be released in 2012. It was later revealed that Human Head had halted production on the sci-fi shooter in November 2011.
Prey 2's absence isn't necessarily bad news. In a a statement made to Eurogamer, Bethesda implied the game was too far out to be deemed an "upcoming title."
"We announced the delay in April, and until we're ready to talk about the game more, the focus on the site is on our upcoming titles."
It makes sense that a publisher would only want to draw attention to games that will be released soon. That being said, Bethesda lists The Elder Scrolls Online as an upcoming title, a MMO that's at least a year out. If Prey 2 will be released after that, maybe even in 2014, it's highly possible Bethesda is holding Prey 2 for the next-generation of consoles.
Prey 2 was one of the most visually impressive games to come out of the last few years. While I'm bummed it seems to be in development limbo, I like the prospect of it being next-gen. With better graphics, and more power, Prey 2 would only get better.
What do you think about Prey 2 being removed from Bethesda's site?
