The Internet is buzzing with word that Dr. Greg Zeschuk, one of BioWare's founders, has left his general manager post at BioWare Austin, the primary studio behind Star Wars: The Old Republic. The news comes from an update to Zeschuk's LinkedIn page, spotted by German website GamersGlobal (via Eurogamer), which lists the Austin position as a "past" job.
Reached for comment, BioWare parent Electronic Arts issued the following statement: "When Greg Zeschuk announced the reorganisation of BWA in May, he outlined his plan to return to his family in Edmonton for a much deserved vacation. Greg also announced the new GM of BioWare Austin and Old Republic, [former MLG CEO] Matt Bromberg. Greg is still with EA. He's now back in Canada, taking time off and thinking about new projects. No change with [fellow BioWare co-founder] Ray Muzyka."
EA's statement on the matter seems pretty clear. Zeschuk's Austin role was always going to be temporary, and he's now heading back to Canada to be with his family. I wouldn't read too much into this move until/unless a more dramatic statement is made.
