According to id Software head John Carmack, Doom 4 "Will be done when it's done."
At his QuakeCon 2012 keynote speech, Carmack said Doom 4 is being done in "Bethesda mode." Carmack said he wanted to avoid some of the missteps the company made with its last game, Rage.
Carmack promises that Doom 4 will feature "better tactical gameplay," "faster responsiveness," and a "gritty, visceral feel." Doom 4's levels will be less of a "shell" than Rage, with more interaction in the environments. No real gameplay details were revealed, beyond the reassurance that the game will feature "Shotguns and demons."
As we learn more about Doom 4, we promise we'll tell you.
