Activision has all the details this morning on the final two DLC collections that will be coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in the months before a newer, shinier toy comes along, in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Content Collection #3, dubbed the Chaos Pack, will be released for Xbox 360 players on August 9, 2012, and Content Collection #4, dubbed Final Assault, arrives on September 6.
Next week's collection -- note that this is the full DLC release, meaning that Call of Duty Elite subscribers will be able to grab the totally new stuff sometime before August 9 -- adds four Spec Ops missions to the game (Vertigo, Arctic Recon, Light 'Em Up, and Special Delivery) and three Face Off maps (Vortex, U-Turn, and Intersection). Also coming is the new Chaos Mode for Spec Ops which sounds a tweaked version of survival mode with power-ups and combo kills.
Here's what the press release has to say about Chaos Mode: "Special Ops Chaos Mode delivers a frenetic form of combat that demands players to outlast waves of enemies, while chaining kills on maps littered in power-ups to achieve the highest possible score on fan-favorite multiplayer maps Resistance, Village, Underground and Dome."
Given what we've head about the PlayStation Vita game, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, focusing on shorter, Spec Ops-style missions, I wouldn't be surprised if the console version of Chaos Mode went portable later this year as well. That's pure speculation though, so take it for what it's worth.
Content Collection #4: Final Assault will be built entirely around multiplayer action. The pack serves up five all-new multiplayer maps: Gulch (an abandoned mining town), Boardwalk (Jersey Shore!), Parish (the French Quarter in New Orleans), Offshore (oil rigs), and Decommission ("rotting ocean liners" -- a ship graveyard?).
The packs will cost 1,200 MS Points apiece, which translates to $14.99 apiece on other platforms, once that content actaully arrives on other platforms, of course. There are no specific dates yet for the multi-platform releases, nor is there any hard info about when the CoD Elite content will be arriving.
