Sony Online Entertainment will at long last flip the switch on the beta for its upcoming free-to-play first-person-shooter, PlanetSide 2, as early as Monday, July 30, 2012, company president John Smedley revealed on Twitter. He revealed that invites will be sent out in waves, and that "every single PS1 player who has ever subscribed to the game will have there Station Account activated at some point during the beta," with preference going to active subscribers.
The beta is expected to launch on Monday or Tuesday, and sign-ups are still open for those who haven't registered yet. PlanetSide 2 is a PC-only F2P FPS that has been praised in previews for its gorgeous graphics and ambitiously massive contested open world, the whole of which is divided into many smaller battlegrounds and strategic emplacements that the game's three warring factions will fight over. The inestimable Kevin Kelly took a peek at the game at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, so be sure to check out his PlanetSide 2 preview.
