In yet another show of proof that NASA is filled with a bunch of video game-loving geeks-in-arms, a metal panel that will soon be sent off to the orbiting International Space Station is adorned with a laser-etched image of Portal 2's Space Core along with the quote "In spaaaaaace!" The panel will be shot out of our atmosphere this Friday, July 27, 2012, by the Japanese HTV-3 resupply craft.
Valve praises the efforts of the unnamed NASA tech who is responsible for the laser-etched image in a post on the Portal 2 Blog (via Kotaku), adding that "NASA in no way officially endorses secretly laser-engraving characters from Portal onto their spacecraft." Something which I think we can all agree is a crying shame. The post also notes that you can tune in to watch Wheatley's historic voyage this Friday on NASA's website, starting at 9:15am EST / 6:15am PST.
