Arma 2 mod DayZ might have captured the imaginations of zombie-loving gamers everywhere, but Hammerpoint Interactive's newly announced PC game The War Z kicks things up a notch. It's a survival MMO set in a post-zombie apocalypse world a full five years after the dead started to walk. Hammerpoint has been working on the game for the past year, with plans for a fall 2012 releas and a $30 price point (no subscription fees or "required" in-game purchases), according to a new interview with IGN.
The game will include "strong RPG elements," according to the press release, with players able to spend earned XP on a range of skills. There's also an in-game economy for buying and selling gear, PvP and PvZ play, both public and private servers, and more. The game's standard mode, which allows players to revive downed characters after a cooldown, will be joined by a Hardcore mode, which features the DayZ-like twist of character permadeath. The existence of the Arma 2 mod might make the idea seem a bit less fresh, but it sounds like Hammerpoint is cooking up a cool and flavorful take on the zombie endtimes in The War Z.
