Sam Raimi is no longer on board to direct the planned big screen adaptation of World of Warcraft. The filmmaker revealed his departure from the MMO-inspired project in an interview with Crave at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, blaming scheduling issues relating to his upcoming release, Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Raimi also revealed that the studio "had to move on to another director" with his departure because "they had to start making it," so don't think the change means that there will no longer be a World of Warcraft movie. Raimi unfortunately did not reveal the identity of the new director, but if Legendary Pictures really "had to" move forward with the project, as Raimi said, then I'm guessing we'll be hearing more soon enough.
