Love it or hate it, the Twilight saga is coming to a close, and the cast made one last Hall H appearance during the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Panel at Comic-Con 2012.
As the first Hall H panel of 2012, Twilight started off on a bittersweet note as host Eric Moro paid a quick tribute the Twilight fan who was tragically struck down by a car two days ago while camping out in anticipation of the panel.
After a brief moment of silence, however, the crowd began to roar as the lights went down and the Breaking Dawn 2 logo appeared on the screen.
While Comic-Con has grown into a celebrity juggernaut over the past several years, a lot of the rapid growth can be attributed to the crazy fan response when the series first debuted here four years ago in 2008. Since then, the series has stomped the box office, breaking records, but not returning to San Diego. Now, as the series comes to a close, the cast and crew made one last appearance at the show that made them famous.
Moro was joined on stage by Kristen Stewart (Bella Cullen), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), Mackenzie Foy (Renesmee), and author/producer Stephanie Meyer. Unfortunately, Director Bill Condon was absent due to work commitments on the film in London, but he did send a special message and introduced the first seven minutes of the film on video.
Breaking Dawn Part 2 starts when Bella's eyes open, and she is reborn as a vampire. Edward comes and greets her and the two of them go for a hunt, eventually meeting up with Jacob. Just before Resemee would make her first appearance, the clip ended.
The cast was very excited to talk about the last film, and the opportunities it presented them as actors. "I couldn't wait to break her in," Stewart said about Vampire Bella.
When asked about the difference between Edward in the previous films, and his attitude in Part 2, Pattinson replied, "You'd think he'd be a little bit more understanding of her, but he has even less."
Taylor Lautner was also able to look at his character in a different light, "Jacob's goal throughout the whole franchise has been to end up with her. In this one, he really has a huge weight lifted off of his shoulders."
The passionate Twilight fans responded well to the new Bella, and Lautner commented, "It was just crazy to see Kristen play a vampire. For her to just change gears like that, and in my opinion, do it perfectly."
Mackenzie Foy, the little girl who plays Renesmee said of her on-set experience, "We played hand games, we talked and talked. I have a lot of memories with the cast and all of them are very cool."
The one thing the entire cast was aware of, certainly, is what the Comic-Con audience has done for Twilight. As Peter Facinelli, the Cullen family patriarch said, "I'll take two memories with me. ONe is from events like this. Staying with us through this ride. I feel like I should scream for you! Woo! Love you guys!"
Jackson Rathbone who plays Jasper Hale added, "This is my first Comic-Con, and my view right now is beautiful."
The panel soon moved on to the question and answer portion of the program.
Question: If you were to come to Comic-Con, what villain would you dress as?
Robert Pattinson: I'd probably dress up as Zod. Kneel before Zod!
Kristen Stewart: The evil queen from Snow White.
Q: For Bella: What was it like to finally be able to play a vampire?
Kristen Stewart: You want something for so long, and then they give it to you. It's like waiting for Christmas, so when you get it, it's like AHHHH!
Q: If your character from Breaking Dawn Part 2 could give your twilight self any advice, what would it be?
Robert Pattinson: Keep it in your pants
As the panel wound down, the cast received one last round of applause from the fans who had made the series such a worldwide phenomenon.
The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2 will be in theaters November 16th, 2012.
