Disney now has a February 7, 2014 release date set for the DreamWorks Studios big screen adaptation of EA's Need for Speed series, Deadline confirms. The only recently confirmed flick has Act of Valor director Scott Waugh at the helm and a script incoming from George Gatins, who developed the story with his brother John, also a producer on the flick.
This is only the latest in a string of recent "video games in Hollywood" news items. Last week we learned that Prometheus star Michael Fassbender will star in and produce the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie. Then, yesterday brought the news that Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan had been called in to work on the script for a God of War adaptation.
Could Hollywood's recent comic book obsession now be bleeding over into games? Here's hoping. Bigger budgets and more executive-level interest might help some of these adaptations not... you know... suck quite so much.
