The first DLC pack for Max Payne 3, entitled Local Justice, hits Xbox Live and PlayStation Network tomorrow, bringing with it three new multiplayer maps, a new weapon, new item, and a new multiplayer faction (more on those in a second). Now, as anyone with any online shooter experience will tell you, running into a map blind is the best way to get yourself killed in a hurry. Luckily for you, the folks at Rockstar Games have gone ahead and broken down the new maps--Imperial Palace, 55th Battalion HQ, and Departure Lounge--to highlight some of their key features and ensure you know exactly what sort of ballistic mayhem you’ll be walking into in the DLC.
If you’ve finished the Max Payne 3 campaign, then you’ll recognize the three maps since they play host to some of the game’s most intense and frenetic shootouts. The first map is Imperial Palace (click to enlarge), which seems to boast plenty of close-quarters action, while also providing some choice spots for sniping at the eastern most part of the lower level. There is also a balcony near the middle of the map that can give you a vertical drop on foes below. Just looking at those ramps leading between levels has me turning around in my chair to see if there’s anyone waiting to put a slug in my back. I predict a LOT of deaths on those ramps. A lot.
Next up is 55th Battalion HQ, another multilevel, claustrophobic killing space. As you’d expect from the Sao Paulo Special Forces’ headquarters, this map looks to put a premium on fast and personal combat as you weave your way through offices and control rooms, while trying to avoid catching a slug from opposing team members on the upper level passageways. Moving between levels and from open spaces to hallways will no doubt require quick adjustments to tactics and loadouts, and make for plenty of diverse showdowns.
And finally, there’s Departure Lounge. Luckily for players, security at Sao Paulo’s Piratininga Airport is super lax when it comes to firearms, which should result in some of the most intense airport-based gunplay this side of “No Russian." The upper level walkways that border the main terminal area should prove to be hotly contested real estate for players looking to rain down hot lead on enemies below. Expect plenty of frenzied, up close and personal action as teams use conveyor belts and luggage carts in the bowels of baggage claim.
As for the rest of the Local Justice content, Rockstar has revealed that the new weapon being introduced is none other than the always popular M4 assault rifle. The pack will also include the Sao Paulo police as a new faction (gun and faction pictured above), as well as the new Light Fingers item, which lets you loot corpses faster. For achievement/trophy lovers, you’ll be pleased to hear five new ones are heading your way:
- Air Ace: Get 2 kills in a single Shootdodge in the Departure Lounge
- Express Checkout: Kill 4 players within 3 seconds in the Imperial Palace
- Keep Your Nose Clean: Get 100 kills as a member of the SPP
- Long Arm of the Law: Win 20 Vendettas in the 55th Battalion HQ
- M4 Murder: Level up your M4 all the way to level 10
Got all of that? Good. We'll be jumping into Local Justice tomorrow to get a taste of Sao Paulo's local flavor, so check back later in the week for our impressions.
