According to Nintendo, the Wii-U's Miiverse social network won't connect to other networks like Facebook or Twitter. The Wii-U will allow a ton of social connectedness between Wii-U players, but the outside world will have to get along without auto-generated updates as to your progress in New Super Mario Bros. Wii U.

Nintendo of Europe’s managing director of marketing and public relations Laurent Fischer put it this way: “I have three devices permanently doing that already; what is our benefit to do so also?”

"The community will be the Wii U owners," He added. "Who will have this common interest for video games and our expectation about that is it’s going to be a way to enhance the idea of sharing information on the video game.”
Not connecting to Facebook and Twitter seems like a strange decision to me. As much as I hate/unfriend auto-updates from games on social networks, from a purely marketing point of view, making people aware of your system or game seems like a winning situation. Nintendo has always marched to its own beat, I guess, and this is, perhaps, an example of that.
