We've heard nothing about Eidos Montreal's work on Thief 4 since the game was first announced in 2009, but a newly discovered demo for lighting and composition artist Erich Wong at least confirms that the game continues to exist. The all-CG 30-second clip gives us a glimpse of what a current-gen Garrett could look like, though it's hardly the glimpse into the game that fans might have been hoping for.
The Thief 4 video surfaced following a Kotaku report from Internet super-sleuth Superannuation relating to the game's absence from E3 2012. There have apparently been multiple top-level developer departures on the project, which is never a great sign. There's also this trailer, which was apparently intended for a December 2011 reveal.
It's not clear what led to that not happening, but perhaps this flurry of talk about the long-awaited game will prompt Eidos owner Square Enix to offer up some information. The last anyone heard about the game was in mid-2011, when the Deus Ex: Human Revolution art director made an offhand comment about the Thief 4 team moving into Eidos Montreal's main production space following the completion of Deus Ex.
