Beta invites have started going out to those Xbox 360 users who signed up to help Bethesda test out Skyrim's upcoming Dawnguard DLC, but bear in mind that your chances of actually getting in are rather slim. The official Bethesda Game Studios Twitter feed nods to the "overwhelming" number of Skyrim beta sign-ups, confirming that only "half of one percent" of those who signed up received invites.
The recently announced Dawnguard beta is Bethesda's first crack at creating a public entry point for fans to step up and help smooth out issues with an upcoming product. A Bethesda rep told us at E3 2012 that the move just makes good sense, since the studio's games are so big that there's really no way to internally test an add-on like Dawnguard using all possible variables. This won't be the last beta either; Dawnguard is setting a new standard for the studio, which now plans to run public betas with "any future DLC."
