Miiverse, Nintendo's Internet-connected virtual world filled with Mii avatars, was unveiled at its Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference this morning. Miis that gather in the common area menu include Miis on your console, Miis of friends and Miis of people you have recently interacted with. Miiverse will eventually expand to smartphones and Mii-enabled devices (like the Nintendo 3DS), but that won't be available at the launch of the Wii U console this holiday season.
Miiverse for Wii U is a sign that Nintendo is determined to build a more mature online gaming interface. The first sign of this grown-up up stance is the fact that the words "Wii U friend codes" were not uttered once during the Nintendo E3 2012 press conference.
