Sega may not be releasing Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines until February 12, 2013, but you can now take comfort in the knowledge that a pretty sweet collector's edition will be joining standard boxed versions of the game. The big box release will set you back $99.99, though some of the packed in digital goods can also be nabbed with a GameStop pre-order.
The Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector's Edition box itself is something of a collectible, taking the shape of a Xenomorph hive. The most prominent physical good inside that box is a resin statue of the same type of powerloader seen in James Cameron's Aliens. Also inside is a "USCM Dossier" that includes a mission briefing, a USS Sephora schematic, a recruitment card, an LV-426 recon photo, a USCM iron-on badge, and a USCM graduation certificate.
The highlight of the digital content side of the collector's edition is probably the four playable movie characters: Private Hudson, Corporal Hicks, Private Drake, and Sergeant Apone. You'll also get two exclusive multiplayer weapons (sonic electronic ball breakers and phase plasma rifle), the exclusive USCM Academy Firing Range game level, Ripley's flamethrower, and "additional Marines character customization options."
GameStop pre-orders receive a sample of the above content in a competitive multiplayer-focused bonus. Put down money on the game early with the retailer and you'll receive the four movie characters, Ripley's flamethrower, and those mysterious "additional Marines character customization options."
