According to Deadline, Josh Trank has signed with Sony Pictures to develop and direct a Shadow Of The Colossus movie. It's planned as a large-scale, live-action adaptation of the PS2 Sony video game. Trank, who directed Chronicle, says he's a fan of the game, and sought out the project. He'll work on the movie with producer Kevin Misher and executives Andy Berman and Kevin Chang.
This isn't the only big movie Trank has in the works. He's also developing two Marvel superhero franchises: Fantastic Four for Fox and the Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony. He’s also signed to do the film adaptation of comic book adaptation Red Star for Fox.
As a fan of Shadow Of The Colossus, I gotta worry about a big budget adaptation of this game. No offense to Trank, but I wonder if anyone is really capable of creating a blockbuster that features the strange, dreamy beauty of Shadow of the Colossus... without that, what do you have but a dude killing big monsters? No this cannot and won t under any circumstances be good. The revelation that dawns on the player slowly throughout the game, and that is revealed to the so-called protagonist at end-game is dark and devastating. Hollywood doesn t often go for dark and devastating, especially when it involves seeing the hero turn into a villain. This film will be a CGI action spectacle, the colossi will lose their sympathetic qualities, the ending will be changed to offer the hero redemption and the audience the chance to leave feeling uplifted . Fail. And shame on every idiot who thinks this is a good idea. How about developing original scripts instead of mining and subsequently ruining every last thing published in every other country and medium.

*sighs* gamers don't even care about the people who don't play videogames. I mean most gamers don't. Also even though the movie is not being made by the compny who made the game, I'm still gonna see it. Now the game has 13 collossai. I'm willing to bet the movie is only going to have 4 maybe 5. A short film with 1 colossus and no dialog would be a haunting narrative. Anything else would ruin the beauty and wonder of the experience

kinda skeptical of this but I really hope it turns out to be a great movie, one of the most unique and beautiful games ever made really deserves the same treatment on screen. On a side note I never saw the movie but supposidly "Reign Over Me" took several inspirations from the game, that movie came out a few years ago now

It could work, but not with all the colossus. Maybe 3 or 4 of them, perhaps 5. Also the movie could benefit if it uses a lonely character scenario like castaway or moon, where most of the movie the character is alone with the environment making the setting as important as the actor. Or so I think.

The game implies that there is more story before Wander rides away across the bridge. The process of:
1) Find colossus
2) Stab colossus
3) Pass out
repeated 16 times will need some more love, though.
