BioWare is planning its next hefty update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, with the "Allies" update bringing the game up to v1.3 sometime in the near future. A new trailer hosted by game director James Ohlen runs through the changes, and you can also read on for a quick breakdown.
One of the most welcome new features being added to Star Wars: The Old Republic is a group finder that makes hooking up with friends or simply people looking to play the same group-oriented missions or PvP easier. Going along with this is the long-awaited character transfer feature, allowing players to jump created characters from one server to another.
There's also a fair amount of in-game content being added, starting with new Legacy perks. The Legacy system was the focus of game update v1.2, adding a feature that allows players who have pushed at least one character through the first act of the story to pick a surname and develop family/friend ties between their various characters.
The Legacy system features experience levels and unlockable perks that are designed to offer a more streamlined play experience for those who put in the time. The Allies update will add new perks, such as advancement bonuses that offer added XP rewards for different game modes/mission types or a perk that lets you ride speeders at an earlier point in the game.
Also coming is adaptive gear, which allows you to fuse collected the look of social items with the protection of armor and mods. An augment feature will also be added to the game, allowing players to unlock a special augmentation slot for any piece of equippable gear.
