Gearbox Software now has a release date set for Aliens: Colonial Marines: February 12, 2013. This is either great news or disappointing news, depending on how much you knew about the game prior to right now.
Colonial Marines news went quiet shorly after the game was announced in 2008, but an E3 2011 showcase and some subsequent updates pointed to a spring 2012 release. We learned earlier this year that the release window had moved to fall 2012, and we've been operating under the belief that four-player Alien killing would happen sometime during the coming holiday season.
Today's press release confirms that this is no longer the case. No mention is made of the previously expected fall 2012 release and the announcement isn't framed as a delay. Aliens: Colonial Marines just has an official release date now, in February 2013.
It's not the worst development possible, what with the 2012 holiday already looking so packed with great games. Still, none of those games qualify as a proper sequel to James Cameron's Aliens. This one does, and we all want to play it. The game now joins BioShock Infinite in making February 2013 the greatest birthday month for me ever (HINT, HINT). It's just too bad we have to wait that much longer now. To tide yourself over, go ahead and check out our recent Aliens: Colonial Marines preview.
