Star Wars: The Old Republic Imperial Agent Guide -– Many Bothans Died (At Your Hands) To Bring You This Guide

EA has announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic has lost 400,000 subscribers since February 2012, bringing the total active user count to 1.3 million.  Having even 1.3 million subscribers is nothing to scoff at, but it seems as though BioWare wasn't delivering content that people wanted to play fast enough.

However, it seems as if the Star Wars: The Old Republic devs have noticed the issue and are now working harder than ever to come up with brand new content for players. EA revealed that two new content packs, one called Legacy and the other, Allies, will be available for players sometime in the beginning part of the year.

Presumably the Legacy pack was update 1.2, which added features to the game's Legacy system, as well as new missions, like Warzone: Novare Coast, Operation: Explosive Conflict and Flashpoint: The Lost Island. We're not sure what the Allies content pack will include, but I'm thinking it will have something to do with your Companions.

Let us know if you're someone who started playing SWTOR at the beginning but have since stopped your subscription. If this is you, why did you quit, and will you go back if they add enough new content?

I stopped playing because I have been spoiled with BioWare's other games like mass effect and dragon age where combat is fluid and real time and there is none of this archaic turn based style combat... the graphics are cartoony, and the emotions are fake... compared to mass effect and dragon age this game just comes up WAY to short. And I am not PAYING to play such a game.

Rated PvP was supposed to come with 1.2... it didn't... still isn't implemented. 90% of the US servers are ghost towns and since they don't know how to do server transfers i'm not going to re-roll another toon to be able to do things like ops and pvp without waiting 45 mins for my first huttball game that will end in 30 seconds due to lack of players. Also got tired of getting 12 FPS on my mid level gaming rig anytime i had more than 5 people in the same general vicinity as me due to a terribly programmed game engine.

I loved the leveling experience, they just had nothing to offer after that.

Personally I quit for a few reasons.

The main one was to protest the ending of ME3. Best way for the "little guy" to voice his displeasure is with his wallet right? I even put in the cancel survey reason "other" and "quit to protest ME3 ending".

Another reason is how some classes are too similar. A Jedi Shadow is pretty much the same as a Sith Assassin, just with different eye candy. Telekinetic Throw and Force Lightning look different, but both are channeled DoT abilities. Both classes are double-saber, stealth classes that can spec tank or melee dps. This pretty much kills re-rolling to the other faction as if I played all 4 classes on Sith side, they aren't any different really on Republic side.

This is recycling content and calling it "new". This is something that Blizzard has been doing for a long time and (probably) led to them losing nearly 2 million subs in 2011. The much-hyped Legacy is merely recycled existing features. So I can have a Chiss Smuggler, so what? It's still a Smuggler, just now with a coat of blue paint.

Also as you levled up the cost of buying new abilities went up faster than the normal income you'd have. So, you have to grind out space missions or dailies just to afford skills. The 2nd and 3rd mounts were terribly overpriced for a minimal speed increase. The 1st mount skill costs 40k for 90% speed, then 2nd is 100% speed for 210k. It's hard to justify spending 5X more for only 10% gain.

Finally, I have always liked the idea of personal housing in mmo's. EQ2 had it long time ago, so did DAoC. Later, CoH got it (sorta) with supergroup bases. I thought that my ship would kinda be like that, I could personalize it to my tastes and maybe have people come aboard. This doesn't happen and the "ooo I have a ship" feeling wore off quick as a result.

I'm sure the way Bioware mishandled the ME3 ending fiasco is a factor in the lost subs. Myself and 2 coworkers quit our SWTOR sub to protest the ending.

It's not the only reason, there were a few issues with SWTOR itself too.

Their CS was rather poor, about on par with Blizzard that after waiting several hours (or days) I would get a "sorry can't help you" response.

The Legacy system was rather disappointing, they just recycled existing content and called it "new". I have a Sith Warrior with Force Choke, giving it to my Bounty Hunter isn't making it "new" just giving my BH an ability that already exists. A Chiss Smuggler... is still a Smuggler, nothing really new there either.

I am still playing SWTOR. I love the game, but the problem is that I have no time to play with my busy school and work schedule. However, I just subscribed again and will be playing once more. It's like the saying, "it's not you, it's me" kinda thing. I believe it's a great game and mmo, but it was the lack of free time that I couldn't keep up with it.

I'm still playing it, but only because I won't go back to WOW. I'm waiting for Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2.

SWTOR lacks extended high end content. Which could have been easily done by making the current content harder on release.

Guilds completed the hard/nightmare content way too easily, thus making endgame complete with no new objectives.

Crafting system is finite, with only minimal breaks in the item creation system... too simple.

Gear is ok, but honestly, ugly. I would have expected a lot more from them.

    Vehicles... poor at best.

Questing is a highlight, but replay is not enjoyable. A funneled system is a boring system.

I loved the game but after a while the game got boring and the fact that I had to pay to play a game I enjoyed really put me off... Also the game focused mroe on the story than the actual concept of an mmo so it felt more like I was playing a single player game with a monthy subscription.

I came from SWG's launch way back when. I was hoping for a game to NOT be like SWG at the end, a WoW clone. I was in the Alpha and then beta for SWTOR, I was thoroughly disappointed. Especially when I finally got to space. With as much money as they spent on voice overs, you would think they would, at least, work a little more on space. Come on, it's STAR wars, not "Hey let's play Starfox!"

The graphics, meh, they're not the best. Even at it's end SWG had better graphics and actual armor pieces. TOR took the WoW approach and made the early on stuff just a skin. I had preordered the $150 super special edition and after the space fiasco went back to Gamestop the very next day and canceled it.. In fact, I had already paid the $150, that's how excited I was for it.

I did start a couple months ago when my ire about space cooled down a bit, stayed sub'd for about 2 months. Of which, I only played a toon to getting off the hutt planet. Then I just couldn't do it. And canceled. Sad, really, so many people were looking for a good Star Wars game. And then we got TOR...

I played it twice to level 50 to get 2 classes' story lines, but there pretty much was no endgame. I got tired of listening to people throwing back "you shouldn't have leveled so fast then" as an excuse, since heaven forbid I don't play games like they do, because I read really fast. I couldn't bring myself to level a third class to see the same side quests repeatedly and bailed.

I have to agree, it should've just been a single player KOTOR console followup experience. I'm very disappointed, I was really looking forward to this game.

I played since launch, then quit after 2 months and begrudgingly went back to WOW....no other mmos worth it right now. My main issues were graphics and space combat. There are better engines they could have used other than KOTOR's, and I don't mind the rail flight system (alla starfox, nostalgic and fun) but if I get to upgrade my ship let me use it for more than that, like on other players or have an option to invade IMP/REPUB space at will. The 1.2 graphics update does little more than make buttons and zippers stand out more on the outfits, I get they are trying, but if they had tried harder in the beginning this would not be such an issue. The complaints have been flying since beta, and it seems the devs were never listening, but maybe this will fix their hearing problem....*shrugs*

I started playing it the day it came out, loved the storyline leveling up, then it just stopped and all you had was dailies, pvp and instances... Just like every other MMO. I guess I am just looking for more in and MMO than they can create.

I played SWTOR for over 200 hours. I stopped because the endgame gear for my male Jedi Consular looked like a wedding dress. If they added some cool looking gear I would consider starting up again.

Unfortunately them loosing 400k subs is not due to the game being a bad one but I think the main contribution is the Acceptance of around 500k into the Wow expansion beta and Tera beta week ends plus its Official launch on May 1st. The MMORPG community is just getting too damn confused with so many different games out in order for games to keep there subs they are really going to have to increase the content put outs. And I have got to say Wow is in for some troubled seas ahead if they don't smarten up with releasing live content sooner.

I bought at launch and also payed for a two month sub, sadly i did not even stay the full time as i felt the pvp was just not handled well also having two starting zones for one faction and then one planet "zone" at a time there after was lame, no choice's and it made leveling through feel small with not much freedom. Also there are personal dislikes i had with the way bioware was "handling" there work with costumer cares also i had my fill after the beta i just did not know it at that time. It was meh.

    Bring on Guild Wars 2

I got it day it came out and the game was a breath of fresh air from wow, but it was the pvp that caused me to switch back. It just didn't seem to have the level of polish wow pvp had, which is to be expected since it's been around so much longer. That said, if SWTOR really smooths out their pvp system I'd absolutely go back to check it out.

Simple solution here. Merge servers or this game will hemorrhage subscribers each month, with GW2 being the nail in the coffin. And that's a shame. I've never been into MMOs really (until SWTOR) since I don't care much about the fantasy genre over sci-fi. The majority of MMOs are just swords and magic in a different universe over and over.

I hope that Bioware/EA can speed up their development and get in the things that are needed to save the game.
    - Legacy, did NOTHING to retain subscribers and provide what people actually wanted.

    - An LFG tool in 1.3 but no cross server?

    - No server mergers (this is the one that will really kill the subscriber base)?

    - Cross-server PvP? Nope.

But hey, they're going to roll out an update for companions (the "Allies" update)!

Bioware seems to be completely oblivious to the issues that are the most important. Merging servers so that people can actually play the game is more important that ANY other update. End of story. But, they continue to ignore this, stick their heads int he sand, and pretend that everything is okay.
