The Elder Scrolls Online has been announced by Bethesda. It is in development at Zenimax Online Studios, and is being developed for PC and Mac under the leadership of Matt Firor, who has spent the last two decades working in online game development.
“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. “It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”
According to Game Informer, The Elder Scrolls Online is set a millennium before the events of Skyrim and concerns the daedric prince Molag Bal trying to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm. The Elder Scrolls Online will feature "player-driven" PvP that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne.
Further details are scant right now, but expect a screenshot later today and a teaser trailer tomorrow.

This could be interesting, I will withhold judgement until I see more. However, those of you saying SWTOR is a huge success.... come out of the bubble and look at sub numbers and community opinion of the game. They said they aren't hemorrhaging subs but that announcement was after they game all endgame players 30 days free time. Of course they can make that claim because they staved off the sub loss for 30 days.

I am a HUGE Skyrim fan but must warn yall, if you make it a subscription service or f2p that sells the advantage in a cash shop, it will suck and I will have nothing to do with it.
I know, does not sound like much but, if I think that way, so do others.

Saw this coming over a decade ago after playing Daggerfall and Ultima Online. I say run it Bethesda, let's see what you got.

What no console port? I hate working on a computer let alone play games on it. FAIL.

Hey ZenMax, how about a native Linux client?

It could be the best MMO in the world. or it will crash and burn and no one will ever talk about it again,
But when you get those people that just seem to f everything and everyone up and piss off the everyone, yeah they ruin any mmo, so stay the f away you people, everyone else, Welcome >}

YES! I am excited! I been talking about elder scrolls moving to online gaming with my friends for a long time now. It's so good to finally see it coming to reality! I am looking forward to this!

Let the glitches begin, lol.
On a serious note this sounds awesome.

If they tried putting this on xbox it would be the equivalent of Phantasy Star Universe.
If you're not willing to get a PC for this you're not a fan.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why, why, why? NOOOOOOOOOOOO, WHY?

I hate when games do this, no more warcraft and we have lost all hopes for another KOTOR. I know we have word of the first DLC Skyrim but I hope we get a second too like Morrowind and Oblivion. MMO is fun but not nearly as entertaining as single player RPG

Not sure but I think I will still prefer my Elder Scrolls off line.

@Jhud...I believe SWTOR has turned into a complete and utter success has it not? I think this is a smart move for Bethesda. Something like an Elder Scrolls MMO has been needed. Bioware is making bank off of SWTOR, Blizzard made bank off of WoW, MMO's are PC gaming anymore.

Super sweet. Its about time

don't get too excited. i predict this is a separate team who is likely making Elder WoW more than MMO Skyrim.

uggg I dont know how I feel about this. I want a multiplayer game, not a massive multiplayer game. MMO's attract too many wieners that discredit the game despite the fact that MMO's are suppose to constantly improve. I'd rather play something similar to crackdown 2, minecraft, or Fable 2/3 where I could allow my friends to step in to my server/game upon my willing it so.
