Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's multiplayer will take place exclusively in the year 2025, we've learned via a recent interview with Treyarch's multiplayer and online director David Vonderhaar. The design reason behind this choice makes sense, as they wanted to create new types of technology that don't exist yet in order to expand the multiplayer with different types of game modes.
"This stuff is important to the game design and using the technology of the 2025 period is...for gameplay. You’ll see these drones reflected in create-a-class, in killstreaks, in these systems that you’re familiar with, but in ways that you haven’t necessarily been able to do it before."
