Half-Life 3 is such an eagerly awaited game, that we'll report on anything that even suggests it's coming. We've got some intriguing recent tidbits that are enough to at least be aware of. This is very, very far from any kind of official announcement, but here's the rumor. Website Inside Gaming Daily reports that a site with the URL http://orange.half-life3.com/apache2-default/ exists. And when you go to it, there's a message reading simply:
"It works!"
Valve owns that domain, and the part of the domain that reads "apache2-default" is the default created when you install Apache, a Website engine, leading to speculation that Valve is preparing Half-Life 3's website. It could mean absolutely nothing.
Some on the internet are speculating that a recent tweet from IGN reading "Wake up and smell the ashes," a quote from Half-Life 2 relates to a recent post from Valve's twitter reading "Be sure to check out all the #Valve feeds." I seriously doubt that these two messages are related, and I think the gaming community's search for a pattern in unrelated places indicates, mainly, the fervency of everyone's desire for any news at all about Half-Life 3.
But I could be totally wrong.
The most interesting recent development in the story of Half-Life 3 seems to come from Gabe Newell himself, who recently appeared on a podcast and spoke at some length about the development of "Ricochet 2," which may be a Gabe's coded way of talking about Half-Life 3.

Hopefully we get Left 4 Dead 3 for ps3 and we get the New Orange Box for Next Gen Consoles since Counter Strike came to Consoles

My prediction is a new orange box containing: HL1 - HL2 - HL3, Ep1 - Ep2 - Ep3, TF1 - TF2 - TF3! That's right folks, the definitive, complete, and final(!) trilogy of trilogies. That is why it is taking so long. How else are they going to outdo the original orange box?

dude, they're still debating whether it's Half Life 3 or Half Life 2: episode 3. If it's Half Life 2: episode 3, this it will be a shorter game that will complete the trilogy of the Half Life 2 series. Or, if it's Half Life 3, it will be a longer, much more integrated game with new features and (possibly) gameplay (not saying that HL2: E3 won't, but HL3 would just feel more like it's own game) that will still conclude the events in Half Life 2: episode 2, and possibly even start up new events. Either way, Valve isn't just going to start a brand new story for Gordon after what happened at the end of HL2: E2. Calm down.

Im sorry but how can people be excited for HL3 when HL2 episode 3 hasnt even been released! Am I the only one that wants to see the end of one of the best games ive ever played in my life? Without that conclusion how can it even be possible to create the third installment!? Does anyone not remember that cliffhanger of an ending they left us with at the end of episode 2!? How can anyone not want to know what the conclusion is! Give me episode 3 then lets talk about HL3. I dont even care if the last episode is 30 minutes long as long as it ties things up. Dam you valve for twisting my heart for what seems like forever!

I WANTS HALF-LIFE 3!!! I bet you Half-Life 3 is the series finale when it does finally make it out. I think Valve cares enough about their fan base that they want to make sure Half-Life 3 is as epic as possible and I also think they care enough about us that they don't want to put us through another couple years of agony waiting for HL4... Of course, they could just be heartless and enjoy watching us suffer. That is also a possibility.
