Alex Zemke, an accomplished animator in the video games biz, is turning to Kickstarter to help make his Portal-inspired fan film project a reality. Zemke is no stranger to game design, with credits on the latter two Uncharted games, Killzone 3, SOCOM 4, and others.
The fan film, called Companionship, features some pretty slick artwork, as you can see above. The still reminds me of Lucasfilm's work on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series. The Kickstarter page isn't live yet, but Zemke notes on his Deviantart blog (via Eurogamer) that those who back the planned 10-minute (or so) short could potentially receive Chell action figures as one of the rewards. Sweet.

I think the project could actually benefit from the current CG style. While it seems like everyone clamors for the "most realistic you can get" approach, you can do some things with one type of style that you just simply can't with another. Its like when Windwaker came out, almost everyone saw cartoon graphics and thought it would be horrible, but it allowed for far more facial expression and certain techniques for backgrounds and effects that wouldn't have worked as well if it had been done "realistically."

You would think that since they're looking to Kickstarter for money to make a 10 minute short film that they would make it top quality CG like the Old Republic/Assassin's Creed CG not Clone Wars type CG especially since they're clearly capable of doing so.
I only say this because someone who animated for games like Killzone/Uncharted could make this purely out of their own free time at very little cost and effort almost making it pointless for the whole Kickstarter thing so I wonder if the real point in starting it up is to make himself some money.
