A bunch of Halo 4 competitive multiplayer details have been revealed via an interview between Game Informer and Halo 4's lead multiplayer designer Brad Welch. In the interview, Welch stressed that all of the standard features that players have come to love over the years will still be in Halo 4's multiplayer, but they've tweaked things like movement speed and jump height to better balance gameplay and to offer gamers a faster-paced experience.
The multiplayer will primarily take place on the UNSC Infinity's combat deck in the Holographic Room. The developers have added a new ranking system to the game, which allows you to earn Spartan Points in order to create custom loadouts. One of the bigger changes coming to the game is now you'll be able to unlock items via ranks, a common feature in modern FPS', but new to the Halo series.
A few abilities are changing as well with Halo 4. Sprint will now be a base ability, since according to Welch so many people were using it that players weren't even trying out other, cooler armor abilities. With sprint gone, 343 has added Forerunner Vision, an ability that allows players to see through walls.
They're also adding a new free-for-all mode called Regicide. In Regicide it's up to you to kill the king, and the longer the king goes undefeated, the higher his bounty becomes. The mode's designed to be fast-paced and easy for newer players to jump in to.
Halo 4 will be out on November 6 for Xbox 360. In the meantime you can check out our latest Halo 4 preview.

Volubility is right, Halo 4 is not making any sense, if you guys were smart enough to realize that they are bringing back armor abilities when they created BEFORE Halo:CE came out and now 343 decides, oh they're to stupid to realize that there were no armor abilities in Halo 3 so no one will care, but no 343 i noticed it and i'm just going to say F you guys, you ruined what i thought was going to be a good game it would be better if you just didn't make the game at all. Halo 3 was supposed to end the TRILOGY, or so they thought. 343 is just in it for the money and ratings.

What ever you guys are on crack. I love and I mean love all the Halo games. Even ODST and Reach. Both of those games were way cool I don't know what all the bitching is about. I just hope they let you aim down the barrel of ( all )your guns on this one.

Earlier I commented that I think the weapon load-out change is a bad idea. However, I'd like to add that I'm still excited as hell for this game, and I'll probably love it, despite a few things I might wish were slightly different.

LOL,you know why Halo is being ruined, blame it on MicroSoft, but really, new armor in Halo sounds interesting, and the ability to see through walls sounds really cool. And really?Halo Reach was that bad? Bungie should just keep the game at it's original and stop copying C.O.D.

In all honesty I really thought Reach killed Halo, and now I think Halo 4 will completely destroy it, but before just assuming I will be buying Halo 4... But I really wish they would have just kept Halo like Halo, not all this fancy shizz on other games, Halo 1, 2, and 3 were simple and unique this new Halo 4 looks like it should be called Call of Duty: Halo.... Seriously, I don't like the sound of this new Halo, you guys should have just kept it the same old Halo.....

Regardless of how they're changing up things other than the core game, I'll still play it. When I think about it, I didn't like Halo because of the way you rank up or how there's no weapon unlocks, I liked it because of the gameplay. As long as they don't change the spartans into regular humans with no armor, shields, strong physical abilities, etc., I will still play Halo. I could care less about sprint being implemented into the general gameplay, that's not a game breaker to me.

You guys are all babies for crying about this being ruined before you even play it. Lets be honest, Reach was worse than all the Halos except ODST so it can only get better and in the hands of a new studio with new energy and passion I cant wait for this game. I believe 343 will bring Halo back to its old glory before Bungie got tired........

I definitely do NOT like the idea of better weapon load-outs for those who have played longer. It seems like the opposite of what would make an open and inviting, skill-based multiplayer experience.
I've always admired the Halo series for the fact that it gives new players and experienced players a level playing field. You lived or died based on your skill and strategy in each standoff.
If the most advanced players have access to the best weapons, what incentive does a new player have for trying to join the fun after the game has been out for a while? He'll get slaughtered. Won't that just create a closed clique instead of a healthy and open player community?
I have recently returned to some Reach multiplayer matchmaking after taking a few months away. I'm happy to see that many new players are still scattered through the matches. The long-time players are easy to spot in battle, with their expert aim and their knowledge of the maps. The new players may lack experience, but they have a fighting chance, as we all have the same starting weapons.
I think 343 is making a mistake by imitating other successful FPSs instead of leveraging what has always made Halo unique.

I prefer a more simplistic halo like h1-h3. In this situation less is best.

Eh, honestly, this is a forseeable future. Everyone wants to feel special, and armor isn't enough anymore. I hate that they're doing the rank = more options thing, because that'll create a gap between players as well as make leveling less of an achievement. Hell, if you level for weapons, you get the guns. That's it. Freaking. Ugh.

Please still have assassination animations. Please.

Last time i saw, Bungie ruined Halo with Reach. Let's give 343 a chance and shut up until it comes out.
Volubility
343 is making Halo Reach 2 not Halo 4. They are destroying the Halo name! Stop copying COD, Dont add "abilities", Keep original guns, and take off where Halo 3 ended. Stop being dumb 343.
Volubility
This is going to be Halo: Reach 2 not Halo 4. 343 is destroying Halo for everyone.
