Electronic Arts (EA) is denying rumors that they're laying off 500-1,000 workers.
Originally, a rumor from StartUpGrind's "multiple sources" claimed that EA would be laying off between 5-11% of their workers for a number of reasons. The first being that Star Wars: The Old Republic isn't matching internal expectations, along with the fact EA just spent over $750 million acquiring Popcap, their CFO Eric Brown left, and they were recently named the worst company in America after the Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco.
Regardless of how bad the past few months have been at EA, the publisher has stated that these rumored layoffs aren't happening, and that, "EA is growing and looking to hire hundreds of people for our digital, console, mobile and social games. Like all game companies, we make occasional adjustments to resize teams as projects are completed and new priorities are established. Overall, we expect that headcount will be up at the end of this year."
And there you have it.
