Human Head Studios, the Wisconsin-based dev behind Bethesda's upcoming Prey 2, took to Facebook on April 9, 2012 with a brief update that sent fan hopes soaring: "We are considering a sequel to the cult hit classic Rune!" Those 11 words are all we have to go on for now, but it's enough to get fans excited about the possibilities. Rune was Human Head's first effort, a PC/PS2 release that built up a devoted fanbase.
The original game is a third-person action title built around Norse mythology and a conflict between the gods Odin and Loki. As Ragnar the Viking, you would run around levels filled with fantasy enemies just waiting to have their heads removed. There was also a multiplayer mode, presumably something that Human Head would blow out in a big way with online support for any kind of sequel.
The same day the Rune update was posted a rumor kicked up on the Bethesda side that Prey 2 has been canceled (via Game Informer). There's been no official statement on that yet, so take it for what it's worth.
