American McGee's next game will be a free-to-play title called Akaneiro and it'll be a take on Red Riding Hood, set in Japan. At this point I'd already say shut up and take my money, but for some, just a description isn't enough, so let's get in to some details.
American McGee and his Shanghai-based studio Spicy Horse will be developing the action-role playing game. Set in the fictional village of Ainu in Hokkaido, Akaneiro will be inspired by ancient demons in the late Edo era and players will join The Order of Akane in order to get rid of aforementioned demons.
Apparently, the blood of these demons, also known as yokai, will turn in to Karma Shards, which is what the Order harvest. In gamer terms, this means kill demons and use their blood to upgrade a variety of weapons. The game uses a cel-shaded style reminiscent of Okami, but the gameplay will be more hack-and-slash based.
Akaneiro will be out for the PC, web and tablets hopefully by next year. There will be a beta for the game later on in 2012, and I can't wait. As a huge fan and advocate of Alice: Madness Returns I am dying to see what McGee and team will do with such an interesting concept. What about you?
