Xbox 360 Successor Rumors Surface: Christmas 2013 Release, Dual GPUs, More

The next-generation successor to the Xbox 360 will sport a dual GPU setup, a "four to six" core CPU, built-in Kinect, always-on Internet (to combat piracy), and a Blu-ray drive, numerous unnamed sources have revealed to VG247. The same sources note that the details come straight from Microsoft as it meets with third-parties in advance of the console's release, which is currently targeted for Christmas 2013.

Microsoft is already on record as saying that there won't be any talk "of new Xbox hardware at E3 2012 or anytime soon," from a March 15 statement. That doesn't mean work isn't well underway on whatever hardware will be following the Xbox 360. The lack of reveal doesn't mean that development on the next-gen MS console isn't already well underway. In fact, you can pretty much count on it. Whether or not the specs detailed above are accurate is another matter entirely.

Also, lets find a way to eliminate the "open tray" problem. Does anyone else experience this?

Sounds cool. If they do come out with one then i wonder if they will integrate a system like ps3 where you can play 360 games on the new console. That is what i would do as a console designer. I would also keep it true to xbox, stick with a classic controller design and and keep the externals familiar so it makes the gamer feel comfortable with buying it. also maybe think about integrating games from different platforms as well.

Its all about money. Simply put. I should have just wrote that hahaha. Microsoft doesn't care about the gamer, if they did their call service wouldn't suck so bad lol. Its ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS. Money.....Money.......and more money. That's IT.

I don't even care about gaming anymore like I used to. I'm not gonna sit here and complain about what microsoft wants to do with their new "console" aka, super computer from hell lololol. However I will say in opinion that I don't feel like a gamer anymore. Look at Halo 2. Game was great. Great online, bullets actually registered all the time, and the game was an actual challenge so if you were good....YOU WERE DAMN GOOD AT IT. Now every developer rushes a game out because they can simply update it later if people don't like something in it. Then it creates more glitches and problems then previously existed. Moving to the console again, why are we going away from GAMES? A console is a system for at home gaming fun, not facebook and iHeartradio. I do love all the cool things though coming to the new consoles though just as anyone else does but take a look at the gaming community now guys. We used to play games online for fun and as a team. Now we all bitch at each other and play like lone wolves. Games have forgotton the core aspect of what they were founded on which is to be fun and competative. Now everytime someone says "I don't like this one gun and how powerful it is" developers nerf down that weapon then everyone complains it's not strong enough or shoots too slow. If we want the gaming world to go back to normal we don't need to de-evolve, we simply need to stop making it another mainstream media whoring activity.
When I play old games I remember how fun it was to find an easter egg or unlock a cheat through true effort. Now you CAN BUY EVERY WEAPON ON BATTLEFIELD 3 BEFORE YOU EVEN EARN YOUR RANK. Always on internet? Kind of creepy yes but not so bad I guess. I prefer my xbox 360 slim which always has internet on if I want it too but not just all the time. That to me is an invasion of privacy and Microsoft just looking to see EVERYTHING we are doing on our consoles at EVERY SECOND of the day. If the no used game rumor is true say goodbye to Gamestop and any game store you love because it will put them out of business. Those companies survive off of used sales and make NO PROFIT off of new games or at least very very little. For a new console I say better graphics and yes, more disc space is welcome so when I play Mass Effect 3 I don't have to switch my disc every 10 mins I go to some random planet. Consoles aren't consoles anymore, they are computers we can carry around that rip us off. DLC....are YOU KIDDING ME? Paying a fourth of the price of a FULL BRAND NEW GAME for 3 stupid levels? Guys look at the facts, we are all being suckered into this "REVOLUTIONARY" movement. We just need to stand up and say something instead of sitting on our asses gobbling up every 5$ avatar item that comes out on the marketplace. I know it sounds like just another bitch session but I swear, I'm just an old skool honest gamer that misses the fun days of gaming. Hell, every time I get on xbox live 9 out of 12 of my friends are WATCHING NETFLIX instead of playing games anymore and all I here about every online game is how pissed people are at it for every little thing. Change is good, new consoles are good. Just not the way we are moving them...at least TO ME AND MY OPINION. Others may want all this fancy new stuff and if its optional thats fine. But MANDATORY "ALWAYS ON" INTERNET, NOT BEING ALLOWED TO BORROW A FRIENDS GAME AND PLAY IT, AND MOST OF ALL THE GROWING ONLINE COMMUNITY OF STUPID PEOPLE THAT RUIN THE EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE ELSE JUST TO TROLL AWAY....is killing me as a gamer. And yes, I can proudly say that I will stop gaming within a few years like I used to if this trend continues. Nowadays, I barely have any fun playing online and I find myself buying all the older systems and games back and playing those more because they remembered the most important rule of all. A GAME IS A GAME, NOT REALITY. Its meant to be fun and unrealistic...that's why we play video games. I thank anyone who took the time to read this and I'm open to any other opinions not just my own. This is just the way I feel about it now.

I have read many articles upon the Xbox 720 release. I am not impressed with the new controller design for the Xbox 720. It will be a price battle between the two console giants. Wii U still captures the family side of gaming, but still can't compete with the two most used consoles in the world. Playstation 4 will definitely try to take the wind out of the sales from Nintendo and Microsoft with the introduction that will thrill even the most uncommon gamer. I am excited that Microsoft wants to introduce a all in one package with the new Xbox so you don't have to buy extra accessories. But that means a price hike for the power house with everything included. I will buy the new console Microsoft releases, but I will expect two things: Backwards compatibility and a used friendly system including the accessories. WOW me Microsoft!

Still too soon IMO. I am pretty sure most of us gamers cannot afford to pay 700-1k for a new gaming system and on top of that pay 80-100$ per game....Again this is my opinion.

Ok heres some problems with this internet always on thing. Only a third of the people in Europe the U.S. and the U.K. even have internet let alone internet fast enough to play online gaming all the time.

The dual gpu thing would be cool if the console even needed it it looks almost on par with the P.C.s right now.
And finally think of all the money they would lose if they charged $500 for the console $50 a year for online play an expected you to give someone else $70 a month (which is the average high speed internet bill) for internet they're sales would plummet the only people who would by in would be Xbox fanboys

Nope. One problem. It's rediculous to put the camara in the xbox itself. Pop quiz, how many people here have enough room for an xbox in front of they're TV? And allways-on internet, are they crazy?

"Microsoft is already on record as saying that there won't be any talk "of new Xbox hardware at E3 [2012] or anytime soon,"

Of course not, because all anyone will want to talk about is the "No used games" rumor.

So let me understand this always on internet is what's trending now?!!...So in order to play something that I paid 60 to 90 dollars for on my 400-900 dollar console I need to have a seperate third party service which I pay for and then pay for a subscription to the console service side for 20 - 50 dollars.... I order to freaking PAY ...LOL LOL LOL I swaer I'm done with gaming if this happens this is not air nor is it water, its getting way too expensive...maybe i should just work out and get a fast car instead, I'm sure it'll do me better and be less expensive in the long run than playing games.

I'll believe it comes with all of this when I see it.
It sounds too good, the price is going to make me choke.
Buying multiple consoles was good when it cost a couple of hundred bucks.

But I can't keep buying these $500 systems every few years.
Somethings gotta give...and I still have to choose food over gaming.

Their going to have to convince me big time to go out and spend half a grand on the next gen consoles. I hated Microsoft for abandoning the Original Xbox yet makes emulations of most the Xbox games.... I wonder if they'll do the same this time around. Then Sony cuts PS2 emulation from PS3 but supports the PS2. Then you have all the RROD for 360 (happened twice to me) and the YLOD for PS3's(never happened to me). Then they both release much better slim versions of their consoles. I hate kinect with a passion dont like to move while I game not even a Wii remote. Give me a keyboard and Mouse or a Controller that's all I need. Focus on making sweet games that's it. You don't see the movie industry trying to change fundamental things about movies they just try and make em good. Everybody here knows they'll get convinced to jump sometime or another that's what Companies get paid to do make us fork over our cash for something we think we can't live without. Will wait for the Slim versions before I jump into the next gen probably around 2017. I should be fine with all the backlog I've got and the games to come for the 360, PS3, Wii, and PC there's not enough time to catch up before 2013 that's for sure. An extra 5 years will do I think. Then when I jump in after that there should be all kinds of catching up to do all over again yay!

Always on internet? Sounds pretty good. I also laugh at people going "oh but I will need to buy gold then", just a small FYI, there is a thing called xbox live silver :-)

If these rumours are true, it would be one hell of a console!

Not sure about the "always on" internet connection. It makes me cringe at the possibility that Microsoft will then require you, or better yet force you to buy a Gold membership in order to use your console, and that scares the crap out of me. They would make a statement about how it is all in the name of fighting piracy to make it seem like it is a good thing and the sheep will follow.

This is just something that I am weary of, Microsoft already holds a portion of the game I PAID for hostage until I buy their service, with this "always on" internet thing, they could potentially, now hold the rest of it hostage as well. Like some have said, what about the service men? I have a cousin in the Navy and she doesn't always have a connection readily available? I also, attend the holiday festivities on the mountains along with my extended family, I like to take usually both of my consoles up there, but since there is no internet up there I guess I am up crap's creek.

Also I have a nagging feeling that the always on internet thing will be the first step in the blocking of used games, or at the very least the official adaptation of the online pass by Microsoft. Which they could charge for even on the games released by companies that do not use such practices.

I guess I am going back to being a one console owner as of next gen, or maybe my fears about the WiiU will be avoided and my faith in Nintendo restored (God I hope so!!!!), or maybe I'll just go back to the PC.

P.S.: I too have notice a lack of personal opinion in this post, unlike on another certain post about a rival console. Oh G4, it is getting harder and harder to defend you and put my trust in you every day.

    "always-on Internet (to combat piracy)"

Early days yet so this is only speculation, but this may mean they will pursue a similar purchasing dynamic as Sony have been rumored to with their next Playstation. Always-on internet may mean that games have to be registered to a specific account, and so second hand games may not be feasible without purchasing an entirely new registration code.

All I want the new Xbox to have is no disc trays would be nice, people in my family don't know to place a game in a tray without scratching the disc.
And maybe look into increase the data on a disc so game developers can put my content on them.
