Guild Wars 2 -- The Other Big MMO Launching This Year

Guild Wars 2 is holding a beta event this weekend, March 23-25 and we've been invited. Since we've already written several Guild Wars 2 previews, we wanted to take a different approach this weekend and answer any questions you might have about the upcoming fantasy MMORPG.

To ask your Guild Wars 2 questions, just leave a comment. We'll try to answer all of them on Monday, March 26. If you're not sure what to ask about, think along the lines of questions revolving around skills, zones, gameplay, PvP, music, art, quests, dynamic events, abilities, dungeons, etc. Remember, the only bad questions are the ones that go unasked!

    -Do the combat controls really do something new, fun in the MMO space?

    -I'd like to know how world changing our actions are in this game. How dynamic is this game really?

    -Are there really fun things to do outside of combat and crafting? Can I gain "levels/experience" this way?

    -I'm tired of all this talk in MMOs about "end game" and "raiding"..... Does this game give the players enough fun things to do so this is not the focus?

    -Is this game going to greatly reward working together(and have times where you have to help each other) in most aspects of the game? Play Way (http://www.makeourway.com/) to get one idea of what I am talking about. Great, short game. I recommend everyone play it.

    Okay I got a few...
    1. How big is the open world and how is it zoned out? What kind of landscapes are there?
    2. Did you find that the game really does make you want to aid others during play?
    3. What are the items like? What are some of the stats the items will have?

    About the ranger: with it's wilderness survival trait for 5 points exactly how faster does endurance regen, same thing for warrior's "signet of stamina"

    @micrapple: mazimum group size in personal story instances and dungeons is 5. There is no group size for dynamic events, so you can have a 100 or more people participating if you want.

    @crat3: all that info is already known. Look it up on one of the fansites.

    @Konark, @jackell: they are still in closed beta. Skill balancing and system tweaking still has to be done, meaning that how well it runs at minimum specs and exactly how certain skills function (eg how long retaliation lasts) are bound to change a LOT within the next couple of months. So having that info now is useless.

    Assuming these skills and traits still exist from earlier closed press beta...

    Necromancer questions:

    1)Curses major trait - "fear does damage"- does it do damage when death shroud and downed fear skills are used?

    2)Spite Major trait - "gain retaliation when entering death shroud" - how long does retaliation last?

    3)Blood magic Major traits -"minions steal life and tranfer it to you" + "Life transfer heals nearby allies"- will allies be healed by the life transfer done by minions or only by active skills of the necromancer?

    4)Utility skill- summon flesh wurm-its second skill after summoning- "necrotic traversal"(kill wurm and teleport to its location poisoning foes)- does it poison foes at your initial location or at the wurms location?

    5)Utility skill- signet of undeath- active skill "revive neaby allies"- is there a limit to the number of allies? is it instant? do they still be in downed state? or even when they are totally dead? any limitations? - Is the active skill of revival of necromancer able to revive more than one ally, unlike the gaurdians utility skill " signet of mercy" which can revive only one ally?

    6) whats the maximum number of minions a necromancer can control?

    7) if a necromancer is tanking.. say just got one hit on... moved into death shroud.. is there a greater trend of losing aggro during the shift between necrmancer and death shroud. I know this is hard to find out since aggro jumps around.

    Mesmer class -

    1) do illusions always appear with max health or a random hp?

    2) do the illusion's hp bar go down drasitcally on damage or does it mimic hp loss on hp bar like real players (and maybe disappear before hp bar shows 0 since it was a fake bar)

    3)maximumum 3 illusions can be active for the mesmer. When 3 illusions are active.. and 4th is summoned.. the first illusion goes away. Does the game consider this "disappearence" of the 1st illusion as the illusion dying or being killed (thereby activating any secondary effects from the trait lines that heal or put conditions on targets)

    Thank you for your patience and feedback in advance. I realise some or many of these traits, skills and UI may have changed since the last closed press beta in february. In case some of these havnt changed, it would be nice to get a feedback on these.Thank you :)

    are there still non accesable invisible walls next to walls where it stops you when u run into a wall in the game before you touch it. will i be able to jump off side of hills and stuff too since in guild wars 1 i couldnt jump down from a higher spot its like forbidden or something. Is there in depth fighting like you can counter a attack if you quick enough using a skill from an incoming attack? Will there be a higher level than just 20? like say in the ranges like 50 or something like other mmo's? PVE will my main hero be the most important by alot between him and the heroes that follow you cuz i feel like im building 3 more full on player characters. >>>>>Will i be able to jump?<<<<< is everything still instance based? Are there a more range of weapons and stats to those weapons? Will i be able to make builds work for all occasions like in guild wars1 Theres only specific build you have to choose otherwise you wont win in a pvp match. I want to be able to always make up a build and it working well in pvp as well as other builds. Are there bigger pvp battles? will travel be better cuz i hates walking far ways and having to spam skills just to get somewhere like maybe mounts or something. More in depth character customization for eyes and such. Will everyone be stuck in late game with the same armors again??? Where everyone looked the same.... will combat be more fast based? hope its not based on tank healer dps again.. will qeusts be linear again?

    1) What are the "racial-perks" for each of the professions?

    2) What is the maximum character length of names?
    -> is there a minimum number of 'words' in a name (ie. first / last)?

    3) If you wish to change a character's hair, can you?
    -> if so, is it costly?

    4) Any underwater PvP maps, or PvP maps with underwater zones yet?

    -Mesmer Skills-
    -How long does the mesmer utility skill field portal last/stay open once placed?
    - is there a limit to how many people can pass through the portal? If so what is the limit?
    -What exactly is considered a 'projectile' in relation to skills such as mesmer's 'mirror' and 'mirrored feedback'...is it any kind of ranged attack with a projected graphic be it physical or magical?
    -Explain what happens when a projectile is reflected (partial dmg returned, dmg completely returned towards source, dmg mitigated, etc.)

    -Racial Skills-
    -What are the current racial skills?
    -when/how are racial skills obtained (if not available right away).
