Starhawk Splitscreen Makes Smart Use Of Your Entire Display

LightBox Interactive has come up with a very clever concept for using every inch of your widescreen display in splitscreen matches of the May 8, 2012-releasing PlayStation 3-exclusive Starhawk. Most splitscreen games played on widescreen TVs leave some empty space at the sides of the display; Starhawk will smartly fills that space with your minimap.

It's so delightfully simple that it's a wonder we've not seen this tried before. Er ...right? I can't recall any other splitscreen mode doing something like this; if you know of others, let us know in the comments. Sony also confirms on PlayStation Blog that Starhawk will support dual log-in, so that both players in a splitscreen game can play using their own profiles. Multiplayer is the focus of course, though offline co-op is an option as well if you don't mind your stats not being recorded.
