Sony has released new LittleBigPlanet Karting details. We originally heard of LittleBigPlanet Karting when Canadian retailer FutureShop tweeted about the game's reveal at a Destination PlayStation event. Later, PlayStation tweeted the confirmation of the title, and now we've got the details they promised. Woohoo!
LittleBigPlanet Karting, developed by United Front Games, in conjunction with Media Molecule, will be out in 2012 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. You'll be jumping in to vibrant 3D game worlds in an for classic kart racing and competitive arena battles. There will also be things like objective based missions, boss battles, and mini-games.
And it wouldn't be LittleBigPlanet if you couldn't customize everything. You'll of course be able to customize Sackboy, but even more importantly, you'll be able to customize your karts as well. As for creating levels, it seems like United Front is making it easier than ever for you to make the track of your dreams.
"On the create side, players can customize their Sackboy, karts, and much more. The new level editor tools will allow players to construct far more than just kart racing games, as they can design their own karting experiences with the ability to make their own game rules, weapons, and tracks that break free from the constraints of a traditional racetrack allowing the imagination to run wild in a completely open environment," said Sony.
And there you have it. What do you think of the LittleBigPlanet Karting news? Do you think it can compete with a game like Mario Kart 7?

this game looks amazing, this is yet another example of lbp turning gimmicks into gold. the lbp theme of do anything will be a breath of fresh air compared to the limited modnation racers ui, and i like that you do not have to just make racers, as i spent about two weeks trying to make a good deathmach "arena" in mnr

I see what you did there Sony.
Sackboy has turned into Playstation's version of Mario BUT at least with Little Big Planet you have the capability of creating just about almost everything.

RIP Modnation racers, you had a good run buddy

they had more time to make a game that can go head to head with mario kart, modnation just lacked something

Much like LBP2, I thought this was unneeded. Once again, the trailer on the EU blog turned a skeptic into a believer. ModNation was a solid title, but lacked the life that makes LBP so charming. Letting United Front run with Sackboy and his world is a match made in heaven.
With more variation, battle mode, and the play crate share movement, there's no doubt it can compete with Mario Kart on a critical level. The financial level is another story. Mario Kart hasn't impressed me since the 64. Their phoning it in of the title 'Mario Kart 7' kind of proves they've stagnated.

How is this different from ModNation Racers?

Awesome. Another unique game that you'll only find on PS3. However it's hard to say if it will compare with Kart.
