Kids, drugs are bad, mmmkay. That being said, there was an obvious influence on this week and its name is Quaaludes. But I digress, this week on Feedback, Blair Herter, Morgan Webb, Nikole Zivalich and Stephen Johnson talked about serious issues, like time travel, and EA shutting down servers for 14 games. If that news brings you down, then stick around for our discussion on MMOs. Morgan Webb stopped by Blizzard last week to check out WoW: Mists of Pandaria and she shares her impressions. Check it!

I believe on the back of all the games (boxed games that is) it states that the publisher can remove online functionality at any time. I am almost certain they have that stated on the back (in the fine print where the registered comments are.

I do agree that this is crap on EA's part and I think they should pay back some of the money on the new games to the customers that just purchased them (say the past year).

    funny episode,
I know I'm mad at EA, but yeah, their EULA's all say, "enjoy it while it's here mofos"

A new precedent has been set for future Feedback episodes.

As I'm sure other comments have already mentioned below, while I fully agree it sucks how EA yanks the servers for certain games, them doing this now is nothing new. So no precedent is being set, as it was already set a while ago. I'm just surprised you guys are only now aware of it.

Just try playing a Tiger Woods golf game that is more than two years old online, and see how that works. It wont, because that's one of the ways they force you to buy the newer versions of the game.

As a matter of fact, I usually see the server shut down date posted on this very site, so that's why I'm a little surprised you guys seem so surprised this is going on.

The thing that upsets me is that both PSN and XBL have the same kind of clause in their EULA. Whatever you "purchase" on both online services is not really yours. They have the right to remove it at any time so if you don't back it up or you are a late adopter to a game, who says that the previously made available DLC is still going to be there.

If game publishers plan to force DLC and Online Passes on us, they can't be pulling this kind of stunt when a game is no longer "popular" with the masses.

All of my ME2 DLC is corrupted. It was fine one day and the next all ME2 dlc was corrupted and I have all the DLC. Funny thin is that it work when i'm off line but when it connects to EA it tells me its corrupted. This makes no sence. I called EA and they told me that I'd have to redownload every last DLC again even thought it work off line. They also could not explaine why this was happening.

I'm becoming less and less of a fan of Feedback. I'm not a Blair hater or anything. He's okay. However I'm really not impressed with him as a host. I love listening to feedback to hear real discussions and the opinions of people I respect in the industry. The discussions don't seem as in depth or to have as much passion as they used to. It seems like since Blair took over as host there is a lot of time spent goofing around. He seems to waste time trying to be funny and making jokes and ultimately there is a lot of conversation that leads nowhere. There seems to be too much banter with no real purpose. Maybe some people like hearing the people joke around with each other but I really miss the discussions and the more in depth insight into issues that were happening in the video game industry.

@Kibbles 0515, she was also holding the coffee between her legs when it spilled, and the coffee was as hot as people requested it to be, McDonald's had done studies to see how hot people like their coffee, and that's how hot they made it. I'm not a fan of McDonald's at all, but that lady did not deserve to win that law suit, at least not for as much as she did.

This is not the first time EA has shut down servers on their games. Mercenary 2 got shut down over a year ago. I have many friends that were upset when the multi player was turned off. Not to mention they don't provide after lunch support for non AAA titles when it comes to fixing the trophies / achievements.

I just gotta jump in here and defend "that Mcdonald's woman." The coffee was proven to be much hotter than it needed to be, she wasn't driving the car when it spilled, her son hadn't even left the parking lot, and she required skin grafts because the burns were so bad. She didn't just sue because "the coffee was too hot." The coffee was unnecessarily hot, and she received considerable injuries due to the temperature of the coffee.

Thank you for taking my question about date games seriously. Games can offer an infinite amount of different experiences, but we have to be open to the idea first.
    -Thanks again

Eh don't really like EA games but it does set a presented that could have a very negative effect. As far as dlc, they could easily build server that host just the dlc for those games. They are removing at least 14 severs so maintaining one server after losing 13th wouldn't all that hard to do. It would just take quite a bit of time to transfer the data. In EA defense they most likely already have plans for these servers and setting one up to maintain dlc would put them behind. Begin hate mail

To channel Adam Sessler, quoting Twain, for Blair's benefit:

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

Blair, the grandmother didn't get 'millions' for suing McDonald's over spilled coffee. The old lady got third degree burns on her thighs, one of over 700 other people to get similar burns. She sued to get her medical expenses, 11,000 dollars, and McDonalds offered her 800 dollars.

Google image search: mcdonalds coffee burn victim.

Spilling a cup of coffee shoudn't require skin grafts.
