The maps in Battlefield 3's upcoming Close Quarters DLC pack won't support Rush mode, DICE leader designer Niklas Fegraeus reveals in a new Battlefield Blog post. He also confirms that the game's multiplayer Rush mode won't be supported by the smaller maps' tight confines.
In the case of the latter, it's a question of what works versus what doesn't. As Fegraeus writes, "...Rush, being a large and progressive mode that takes you on a journey from M-COM to M-COM, simply wouldn't fit physically" into the new maps. The same could be said for Conquest as well, which is why the mode will see some changes for Close Quarters.
Fegraeus notes that he and game designer Gustav Halling turned to their love of Unreal Tournament for inspiration, specifcally the game's Domination mode. That's what Conquest essentially is anyway, only the Battlefield 3 take obviously works on a much grander scale.
In practical terms, it seems like this new Conquest Domination mode doesn't alter the script much from standard Conquest. The big difference, it seems, relates to spawning. As Fegraeus writes of the new mode, "we used the spawning systems from Battlefield 3 Team Deathmatch and came up with a Conquest mode adapted for smaller spaces." Sooooo... no flag spawns?
There's no set release date yet for Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, but you can expect to see it arrive on all platforms in June. The PlayStation 3 version will of course arrive a week early thanks to Electronic Arts' partnership with Sony on the game.
