Skyrim

ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks are reportedly planning to announce Elder Scrolls Online in May 2012, according to an anonymous industry source speaking to Tom's Guide. Details are scant, but the May announcement would be followed by appearances for the game at both E3 and QuakeCon 2012.

The rumor pegs Elder Scrolls Online as being set around 1,000 years before the events of 2011's Skyrim, which puts the timeframe inside the Elder Scrolls universe's Second Era. The game will also reportedly include three factions, each one represented by an animal: a lion, a dragon and a bird of prey. Tom's Guide notes that the rumor was "corroborated by two additional sources before publication."

ZeniMax and Bethesda gave Tom's an official "no comment" response, so it looks like we'll be waiting until May to see how this all plays out. What do you make of the rumor? Is it time for Elder Scrolls to step into the online space?

Now I know that it would be pushing it, but I honestly think the best way to make this game would be for the creators to implement PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC versions together. By doing this think about how epic and how much of an innovation this would be. Either way the game should be in production for at least three years, just to ensure the game will live up to all its expectations that it will surely have. I mean I would personally prefer to wait as long as possible just so that the game is of good quality. I just hope it does not take an arrow in the knee.

Personally, I want multiplayer, but not MMO style. I'd prefer a self-host server type multiplayer. A host player sets the environment and client players can enter the host's instance of Skyrim. That way you can have as many as, say, 16 people, or as few as 2.

please..... no... we do NOT need an elder scrolls mmo. that would not only be gimmicky, but would ruin the beauty that the games have in them. Imagine it: you are admiring the imperial city(obviously the central quest hub) and you are filled with awe with the sense of place and then all of the sudden your chat box fill up with someone fresh from a raid raging about how their healer didn't do their job.... illusion of the world shattered and annoyed by the raid-nerd's tyrade, you boredly decide to go do another cookie-cutter kill x-many mud crabs so you can get that one level up you need to wear your first steel armor. This would obviously be a horrible investment on bethesda's part and would ruin the thing that make their games special, that being the illusion of an entire other universe.

I think the Elder Scrolls should take a cue from Journey in how to approach multiplayer.

The only down side to this would be that's its inevitable that there will be a duplications glitch along with modded weapons and that's gonna bring gameplay do so much I'm not gonna wanna play it :/

So now the MMO fans will get to play some Elder Scrolls.I say good for them, and good for the Company. As long as they keep making single player games for the rest of us,it's all good.

dont make it an mmo... add on like an arena type multiplayer where players that have worked hard to create an awesome character in skyrim... take them online and pit them against other players and fight... kind of like the arena in Oblivion only player V player

Now I can show off my character to others and my life feels just a little bit less wasted. Just a little.

sounds cool but i'd rather see co-op added to skyrim that would be perfect

    This looks absolutely amazing!
The more Elder Scrolls, the better.
I hope it's like all of Tamriel with hundreds of thousands of quests, and an AMAZING storyline!

How about instead of focusing on a series that would end up being just like EVERY MMO out there with swords and fireballs, they get off their asses on the Fallout Online they kept promising and even made a teaser trailer for? Maybe that's a better idea ... yeah. Yeah, it is. I love fantasy a little more than the next guy, but few things are more appealing and HAVEN'T been done like the simple joy one would have exploring the Wasteland (your choice, I don't even care which) with a buddy. Hello, don't make it an MMO. Make a standard Fallout FPS/RPG and tack a working friend-invite system just as a taste until the real deal comes out.

You know, not all online games are simple MMOs. Neverwinter Nights, for example, doesn't have most of the more tedious features of MMOs, however, it is also /entirely/ customizable, so gameplay changes server to server. I never really got into the fact items expire within days, you had to hunt down countless specific objects to get decent equipment, and so forth. My hopes is that it'll be something like that, however, I've got the feeling it won't quite be like that, but hey, we'll see, eh?

If Zenimax hires someone else to do the MMO and doesn't let Bethesda itself actually touch it, that would likely be where any trouble comes from. Bethesda ain't perfect, but they definitely seem to care about making sure their games are of high quality. The big question is whether Zenimax cares about that, and whether they intend to follow through on that sentiment and make sure an Elder Scrolls MMO can live up to the series itself.

PS: If this does come out, how will it effect the Modding community's current attempts at making a Skyrim Online Mod?

I dont know what to think about this. It has so much poetential. I just hope they dont ruin the rest of the series with one mistake
