ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks are reportedly planning to announce Elder Scrolls Online in May 2012, according to an anonymous industry source speaking to Tom's Guide. Details are scant, but the May announcement would be followed by appearances for the game at both E3 and QuakeCon 2012.
The rumor pegs Elder Scrolls Online as being set around 1,000 years before the events of 2011's Skyrim, which puts the timeframe inside the Elder Scrolls universe's Second Era. The game will also reportedly include three factions, each one represented by an animal: a lion, a dragon and a bird of prey. Tom's Guide notes that the rumor was "corroborated by two additional sources before publication."
ZeniMax and Bethesda gave Tom's an official "no comment" response, so it looks like we'll be waiting until May to see how this all plays out. What do you make of the rumor? Is it time for Elder Scrolls to step into the online space?

The closest thing to TESO that exists currently is Darkfall. It is the Anti-WOW and I am thankful for every time they said how can we make this game as far from WOW as possible. Now I am imagining Darkfall made by Bethesda with better graphics, awesome sound, and rich lore... I want to play it now!

um... yes please. I want a game that can show me ALL of Tamriel AND look as good or better than skyrim... but that would be a ways off... and I can wait. just put the love and attention that bioware put into its first MMO and you'll be on the right track by my estimation

I would like to see "online" as in on PC or PS3 or 360 where its regular ol skyrim just with a certaon limit of people just fighting, like limit 20-50 or as much as possible w/o lag.
Not mmo crap.

they should just do a DLC for Skyrim that allows Co-Op, Splitscreen and Online 4 player, not an MMORPG, we have enough of those already

I am personally still skeptical about an Elder Scrolls MMO. Im not saying that it couldn't work. But at the moment it sounds a little like Halo 4 to me. Im skeptical as hell but want so very much for it to do well. I think that just adding some Co-op in would be absolutely fine. Who HASN'T imagined themselves deep in a dungeon creeping up to a ledge and getting an arrow ready to take out a goblin when suddenly another one comes from out of the shadows and see's you, only to get assassinated from behind by your thief friend. Or maybe there is a dragon flying around and it lands in front of you, only to have your Orc Warrior friend jump off of a tower and onto the dragons back, smacking away with a hammer. The possibilities are endless for Co-op! But as far as an MMO goes I think that it would require to much work, especially without putting the main series into the online scene first.

I can bet your most prized goat that some element of this rumour is incorrect.
The Elder Scrolls series is known for it's detailed landscapes, characters and world.
For them to make an MMO large enough to hold a good number of players (unless it would be an online co-op) that most MMOs sport these days (excluding games like Vindictus) would take them a damn long time to create.
Keeping in mind all the above, the number of players, new quests, new loactions, new NPCs, possibly new perk system and and player interactivity I can't forsee an in-the-near-future release.
Basically took them 6 years to release Skyrim :P
I still look forward to anything Bethesda does, including this :)

Just a rumor. I don't see how the gameplay mechanics for any ES game could possibly translate into an MMO.

All these dorks complaining will be among the 1st in line to buy the game.

Id like co-op for skyrim where you can trade gear and what not in a DLC if possible wink wink
Elroy1997
I just want them to add multiplayer to skyrim not make an mmo out of it. Just give me the ability to fight dragons alongside my friends with the same graphics and play style
Scarface007
It sounds cool but I want a Fallout online game, anybody else?
doinyomama
If they do make this (wich I hope they don't) they had better make it for consoles too.

I think that an mmo is not a good plan i would love to have a pvp an a co po. Hell they dont need a new game just put it in skyrim as a DLC. Think Dark souls ......i would play it a give you the pvp on off
jenderle7
This is a terrible idea! Bethesda can't make a damn single player game or dl content that isn't riddled with bugs......and I'm not talking a few bugs here and there like your gonna see in most any game. I'm talking Fallout New Vegas style, almost unplayable!! A frickin MMO! lol it would take them longer to fix the bugs than create the actual game. I think I'll pass!
Kuroth
Yes,You Should make Skyrim online ignore all these people and make it online!! THUMBS UP IF UR IN!
Evanesque
Oh look. Yet another mmo that will undoubtedly not run on my machine.
dukeletoatreides
MMO: NO! Co-op: maybe. If you Balthur was a pain, always getting in the way, can you imagine another player doing that and taking all the loot??? Think: Borderlands. Ugh.

Exciting news!

I already play WoW, and I also play Skyrim. I don't want or need a Skyrim version of WoW. But if Elder Scrolls Online is truly new, or different, or not just another MMO/WoW clone, I'll give it a chance.
