Brian Fargo's Wasteland 2 Kickstarter campaign has turned out to be a resounding success, reaching its $900,000 funding goal in less than two days, following its March 13, 2012 launch. With 32 days remaining, the project currently stands at $968K with slightly less than 17,000 backers.
The success of this Wasteland 2 Kickstarter of course follows Tim Schafer's own recently concluded -- and enormously successful -- efforts to fund a new adventure game, Double Fine Adventure. The repeat performance here just goes to further demonstrate how powerfully old-school IPs and gaming personalities can resonate with fans. The original Wasteland is well known as a big inspiration for the Fallout series and this sequel is something that Fargo has been working on turning into a reality since he acquired the rights from Electronic Arts in 2003.
