THQ Unveils New Logo, Nation Swoons

Game publisher THQ has filed a trademark on "1666" as it relates to games. While we don't know anything about what (if anything) THQ plans to do with the name, it does suggest some interesting possibilities.

We know that THQ is focusing on 'core games and has jettisoned its less "serious" games. We know that Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets is making an unnamed game for THQ. It could be that 1666 is the game Desilets is working on, although that's just speculation.

Hit the "Read More" tag for a little historical background on the date itself; a lot of things happened in 1666 that would make great background for a video game.

  • The Fire of London: A three-day fire burns down most of the largest city on earth.
  • The French Academy of Sciences is founded.
  • The Dutch fleet defeats England in an epic naval battle

There are limitless gaming possibilities, I think you will agree. Of course, whether THQ actually uses "1666" in a gaming context remains to be seen.
