If you've been meaning to check out Star Wars: The Old Republic, now is your chance. BioWare has announced the first Weekend Pass Free Trial for SWTOR. The trial begins this Thursday and will last until Sunday. Each of the eight character classes will be playable up until at least their Capitol World. PVP will also be playable.
The trial only applies to people who don't already have a previously-active account.
There are a few restrictions. You can't progress past level 15 and you can't earn Legacy XP. (Not that you can play far enough to unlock your Legacy.) Only your Origin World, Capitol Word and the Fleet will be accessible. You won't have access to group chat, PVP chat, and the Galactic Trade Network either.
If you take SWTOR out for a test drive and like what you see, you will be able to purchase a subscription linked to that account. That doesn't mean you can wait forever though. BioWare can delete the free trial accounts, so if you dig it, act fast!
I know this sounds restrictive but for a weekend, you'll have plenty of things to do. Now that I'm done with Mass Effect 3, I'm going to be playing SWTOR again. I have a level 45 Sith Sorcerer that needs me. Let me know if you plan on testing out the free weekend. See you on The Harbinger! (For the Empire!)

The first 10 minutes of this game is what you will be doing over and over again until 50. No quest variation. It's "Kill these Empires" or "Kill these Republics". So you will be fighting humans over and over again. The games engine can't handle more then 20 people fighting on screen. (Ilum world pvp. Yes you wont get better then 10 fps in any number of players at or beyond 20) The only thing this game has going for it is Story. Which dwindles away quickly at the boring gameplay. Play WoW or Rift. Save yourself from this mess.

I had fun through beta but wanted to wait till the summer to see if some of the bugs are fixed. I wish this was happening at a time in which I was not so busy.

Definitely trying this. Not to see if I'll like the game, I know I will. It's to see if my computer can handle it.
Somehow I feel like, if I have to ask it can't.

Question: If I play the trial until it's finished, can I still continue on my progress like a couple weeks later if I decide to buy it? Or is it gone?

Still upset about the ending of Mass Effect 3. Currently boycotting all things Bioware.

I can finally try SWTOR without having to pay, thought I might end up subscribing.

So WoW is sending out 7 day free trials to people with old accounts and their new scroll of resurrection. While SWTOR is just trying to grab the new people, but I wonder how many people kept SWTOR after the 30 days for free. They could easily go free to play by letting you pay for special color crystals, awesome mounts, certain perks like revamp the space fighting to let groups in but only if you pay a sub or unlock something you can form the group but anyone can join the group. The game was awesome fun until you hit about 20.... then you look around and think I just did all this in the last zone.

I was actually waiting for something like this. I have always been apprehensive when it comes to buying MMOs, so a free weekend that allows to me to dip my toes in the water is great.
