BioWare has been the subject of some fan rage in the week since Mass Effect 3 launched after code was discovered on the game's disc for the "From Ashes" day one DLC despite the developer's previous claims that the add-on content wasn't completed until after the main game was submitted in complete form. A new statement from Electronic Arts issued to Game Informer addresses those concerns directly.
You'll find the statement after the jump, but let's make a few more facts clear first. The code discovered on the Mass Effect 3 disc doesn't cover the complete "From Ashes" material, which is a 632MB download (or thereabouts) from your online service of choice. The discovery was made in the PC version of the game, with a tech-savvy gamer discovering that the pack's unlockable squadmate could be unlocked by changing a line of code.
Here's what EA had to say:
"From Ashes is a 600 MB+ download with all new content, including the mission on Eden Prime, new dialogue options and conversations with Javik, new cinematics, the Prothean weapon, and new appearances for all squad members. All of the above content was completed while the main game was in certification and are not available on the disc.
"As stated previously, in order to seamlessly integrate Javik into the core campaign, certain framework elements and character models needed to be put on disc. We did something similar with Zaeed and Kasumi in Mass Effect 2."

No one complains about day 1 DLC if it's FREE, if you reserved the game or bought it at a certain store, etc. It's when they charge for it, right out of the gate, one can not escape the plaintive moans of a cash cow being gored.

If you want it buy it. If you don't then avoid it. Javik is a awesome squadmate to have. In truth I would have bought it anyway. I have not finished the game yet so I cannot comment on the ending but the game is fun to play and in the end that's all I care about. Six out.

Kasumi was an ok dlc. It was clearly made after the game, and it came with a mission that was far more fun than any other in the game.
But From Ashes did nothing interesting except put in a few fancy cutscenes.

Zaeed came with ME2 for free if you bought new and it still took up memory on the hard drive. Kasumi was not first day dlc and came out much later on at a cheaper price then the "from ashes dlc." They talk about making the dlc due to the game being finished already, but in my opinion it looks like they rushed the ending and some other parts of the game and the fact they took such a great character and decided to charge everyone $10 more for content that isn't even that long shows that EA did this just to get extra cash without caring one bit about the fans. If the dlc content was created after the release of me3, I would gladly buy the content due to the developers creating it during a time period separate from the actual me3 production cycle.

I don't get why people are so upset about this. It is either they try and make all the cash they need with game sales and DLC or they start charging more for games. I like the option to pay a little less for games and decied later if I want the DLC. Just my $0.02

Zaeed was also free.

You are not missing anything people. Think of it more like a deleted scene from a movie. YOU COULD LIVE WITHOUT IT!

This is in regards to the reply on my post.
I believe that you missed the point of my comment.
Show me the evidence that this DLC was some kind of big EA/Bioware conspiracy. When you do that, I will gladly jump on the bandwagon. Until then, please understand that this trash talking gets us nowhere.
Thanks

Just post a link to the video G4 and let people decide for themselves. The way you wrote the article is heavily in favor of EA and makes it seem like some crazy man is making allegations without proof.

"Oh, well it's not ALL of the DLC on the disc, just SOME of it."

Gotta be honest, don't care. Great game. This does not really matter to me in the least.

I purchased the collector's edition of this game for my PS3 and i have yet to see this DLC...i even downloaded it off the PS Store and i don't see any of this stuff i'm supposed to get. Also everytime i try to take the elevator to the docking bay to meet up with Miranda my game freezes at the loading screen. Please tell me that this is a problem with the game that can be patched in cause i do not want a defect Mass Effect 3 >_<</safety_wrapper&g t;

I don't understand people actually defending EA. Are you people trying to defend your buyer's remorse or trying to justified your not stupid by getting ripped. That's alright little kids most likely didn't earn that 10 dollars to buy the DLC nor the game anyways. However, if your are an adult and still defend EA's business choice to treat you like mindless fanboys then that is your choice.
But the other side of the spectrum also gets the choice of raging without you trying to do speak for the Evil Alliance's behave you mindless droids.

This was a way to get money. You are telling me Javik the last of his race something like that was just DLC. $10 for one mission and then some after dialogue...

I haven't seen anybody ( so far ) comment on Game$tops giving you the *option to get the day 1 dlc upon purchase in addition with the game within there $tore . $9.99 . Had mine reserved . Just the original copy . This is a first (for me at least) to see Game$top try to get into the dlc market let alone day 1 on a games release & I have been dealing with them over a decade at least . And to see PSN give you the option on Day 1 to download the full game ! I have a 360 / ps3 / & pc's & I got different kinds of luv for all of them . I hate Game$top with a pa$$ion & I Know for sure I'm Not the only one ! But I'm a sucker for crap like this if I have the money to blow . But yet time after time I'm back at my local Game$top . It's like your giving a homeless person some money over & over knowing that there just gonna use it for drugs or alchohol with my wallet dedication to there $tore . If anybody's got Any feedback to this or can share there experience with Game$top'$ Mass Effects release optional day 1 dlc charge I would like to know what you think . Thanks
DarthHerter
well i don't care about first day dlc because its always sucks. the one thing that needs to be addresses are the freezes, loading in odd areas, freezes during conversation, and the entire game freezing to the point i have to turn it off. and yeah that's on the xbox 360

So EA's response is essentially "FU, so what if you know the truth? We're sticking to our story and are going to keep repeating this lie, what are you going to do about it? Lol".
