Mass Effect 3 Weapons Guide: The Best Guns For The Right Characters

Get into our Mass Effect weapons guide to figure out the best weapons for your character in Mass Effect 3. Learn which weapons are best for the different roles and learn how effectively use them on the battlefield. Now due note, that DLC and Collector's Edition guns are not included in this guide because not everyone has the money to spend for extra weapons.

Mass Effect 3 Weapons Guide: The Best Guns For The Right Characters

Soldier

Assault Rifles - M-76 Revenant

Submachine Guns - M-9 Tempest

Heavy Pistols - M-6 Carnifex

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed +58%

Soldiers are designed to be an expert in barrages of gunfire. High-level soldiers can use three different kind of special ammo types, which are Incendiary, Disruptor, and Cryo. A soldier type also has the unique ability to use Adrenaline Rush, which allow them to focus on targets with lethal accuracy causing heavy damage against the enemies. That's why your best picks are the M-76 Revenant, M-9 Tempest, and M-6 Carnifex.

The M-76 Revenant has a high fire rate and does a good amount of damage, however, the accuracy is really low, but with the Adrenaline Rush ability, it will increase your accuracy greatly, especially if you add the scope mod to it.

The M-9 Tempest is lightweight and has a whole lot of bullets to empty out quickly. The accuracy is better then the M-76 Revenant, but only use this sub machine gun for medium/close range combat.

The M-6 Carnifex is highly accurate and a lethal pistol to use. Although the fire rate is slow, a couple of hits from this gun should make short work of any bad guy.

Infiltrator

Sniper Rifles: M-92 Mantis

Heavy Pistols: M-5 Phalanx

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed: +122%

Infiltrators are tech and combat specialists with the unique ability to cloak themselves from visual and technological detection. Infiltrators are best  with a sniper rifle. They have the ability to slow down time momentary to pick off their target.

The M-92 Mantis is a very powerful sniper rifle, able to kill an enemy in one shot. The accuracy is very high and doesn't weigh as much as the Black Widow. However, the only problem is the slow fire rate and the low amount of bullets you can hold. Beside that, it's still the best sniper rifle for an Infiltrator who wants to carry light, but still do heavy damage.

The M-5 Phalanx is a great gunwhen combined with the M-92 Mantis. Its fire rate is medium, has a good amount of damage, and holds a decent amount of bullets, creating a deadly close combat attack for enemies. When you run out of bullets for the M-92 Mantis, you can cloak yourselves and take the battle up close.

Vanguard

Shotguns: Graal Spike Thrower

Heavy Pistols: Scorpion

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed +16%

Vanguards are the best in close combat. Charging into the battlefield quickly at enemies can destroy them instantly with biotic abilities. The biotic charge that strikes the opponent with incredible force stuns or knocks them down, leaving them opening for a blast of bullets.

The Graal Spike Thrower is one deadly shotgun and pretty light to carry. Of course with shotguns, they have a slow fire rate and low amount of bullets, but the Graal Spike Thrower has a little edge when it comes to accuracy. When you have one shot to take down the enemy you want to make sure the shot hits him.

The Scorpion is the perfect companion when you need accuracy by your side. What makes the Scorpion different from other heavy pistols are the explosive bullets. That's right! These bullets stick to your enemies and blow up causing great damage to their body. Although, the bullets are slower when fired, this pistol works great against those automatic turrets.

Sentinels

Assault Rifles: M-15 Vindicator

Heavy Pistols: Scorpion

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed +138%

Sentinels have an advanced shield that makes them tough to destroy. I wouldn't recommend just rushing the enemies just because you have a tough shield though pushing forward is a great way to use the armor system. You can take a couple of shots, but a turret or mech can easily get rid of that shield in an instant.

The M-15 Vindicator fires in three-round bursts creating the opportunity to do a good amount of damage while having great abilities accessible. It's great at any range and definitely is light enough for Sentinel types to use their biotic abilities quickly.

Mass Effect 3 Weapons Guide: The Best Guns For The Right Characters

Adept

Heavy Pistols: M-6 Carnifex

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed +200%

Adepts are all about biotics. Capable of killing enemies with raw biotic power, this type doesn't need advanced weapon combat. They can defeat enemies without firing a single shot. They have the ability to spawn a singularity, damaging enemies and pulling them into the air for your team members to finish them out.

The M-6 Carnifex provides Adept characters with the opportunity to unleash heavy damage and still have great accuracy. Most of the time you won't be using guns to defeat your opponent, but when you do, you can count on the M-6 Carnifex to do the job.

Mass Effect 3 Weapons Guide: The Best Guns For The Right Characters

Engineer

Sub machines: M-12 Locust

Pistols: Scorpion

Total Weight: Power Recharge Speed +141%

Engineers are the most effective class at disabling the defenses of enemies or incapacitating them, especially via their unique ability to create combat drones to force enemies out of cover.

The M-12 Locust is perfect for Engineers as it has a very high level of accuracy and capacity providing a barrage of bullets to hit defenseless enemies. As combat drones force them out of cover that's your chance to spring up and unload your clip.

The Scorpion is even more effective for Engineers that lower enemy defenses before firing. Again, although, the bullets are slow, the combat drone will distract the enemy opening up an opportunity to fire.

And there you have it G4's best weapons for Mass Effect 3, but now we want to know what you think is the best gun for your Commander Shepard. Share your thoughts in the comment box below.

@TOMMYBOY601: You don't need to fire on EVA. All you need to do is run towards her. If she starts firing, and you come close enough to her, she just runs further away.

As a Vanguard you always want to have 200% recharge! Just equip a pistol but you probably will never use it... Charge and Nova combo all the way!!!

    Class: Infiltrator
    Powers: Incinerate, Grenade, Carnage
Weapons (+9 weight but powers regenerate fast enough if they are needed) -
    1) Primary - Heavy Pistol: M-77 Paladin
    2) Secondary - Sniper: Javelin (Javelin is the best compared to the Black-Widow load out by default as well as the Widow).
    3) Backup - SMG: M-25 Hornet (use this if I'm out of ammo completely on both the heavy pistol and the sniper, which rarely happens).

This guide is amazing... IF you play the characters in one specific way. I play a Sentinel. I have Tech Armor specced for survivability, Fitness maxed out, Armor-Piercing Ammo as a Bonus Power, and I have a Revenant equipped. I tend to slam enemies with a wide-range Throw and/or Chain Overload, then run up to them, hit them with another Overload and empty my Revenant into their faces at point-blank range. Combine that with Liara's Singularity and Ash's Inferno Grenades and Javelin, and I can pretty much take anything out before they can even scratch my armor.

So although I appreciate that this giode is incredibly useful for what it's worth, it's also a bit one-sided.

Spamming Charge and Nova might be the "best" strategy for a Vangaurd, but I say play however you want. My vangaurd carries no shotgun, opting instead for the versatility of an AR, SMG, and Pistol combination, and I've still got +138% recharge. I do charge/melee/nova when it can give me a tactical edge on the battlefield and for cleanup, but who wants to repeat the same strategy over and over for 50 hours?

And I prefer the Mattock AR, though it's not the most powerful. I just love the feeling of the single shot rifle, and in the right hands it's a headshot machine...

Vanguards are more about their powers than their weapons.
Typically you bionic charge into battle, spam a few novas then take out any remaining with a strong melee. Therefore you need high power recharge, that comes only if you carry one weapon. Shotguns are a good idea as you will most likely be in melee range when your powers are on CoolDown. I recommend trying a Geth Shotgun modded with increased damage and armor piercing for those harder to kill targets.

Hey G4..seriously...if you want to be taken seriously, you should make sure the people posting articles of you site know the difference between the words "then" and "than"!

" The accuracy is better THEN the M-76 Revenant..."

Really guys? REALLY? Embarrasing. Oh, and not knowing the difference between "due" and "do" is pretty bad, as well:

    "Now due note, that DLC..."

    Seriously guys...get some standards.

I played as a Vanguard, and odd as it may sound, I thought the Graal was actually TOO accurate; when you're charging around all over the place, you don't really want to take the time to line up a shot. I used to Eviscerator, which you can just point in a general direction and hit everything at close range. Besides, I found it better to concentrate on recharge speed. With the Eviscerator and Locust (which barely weighs more than air with Ultralight Materials) I was able to add the Paladin for distance stopping power and still have +156% recharge speed. The charge and nova combo never needs to stop

I love the prothean particle beam. Infinite ammo! I'm playing on insanity & more ammo is always good. Plus, I use cryo ammo so I'm basically Mr. Freeze.

Heck as an infiltrator, i love carry 2 pistol, 1 sniper rifle and an assault riffle. Right now im +40% which is great since i upgrade all my weapons. Is fun to switch weapons in regards to the enemies.

I have to disagree with the recommendation for Vanguards. I have had a lot of success with the M-27 Scimitar V and no pistol. The Scimitar is fast firing, 8 shells per clip and low accuracy...but tell me please, why would a Vanguard, who should constantly be up close and personal with enemies, need an accurate shotgun.

There are 3 reasons I opt not to take a pistol:
    1. Ammo, I haven't had any major issues with running out, so it seems unnecessary to bring a backup weapon.
    2. The less weight you have means the faster your Biotic Charge cools down. The faster your Biotic Charge cools down, the longer you can stay in the fight because every time you use it, it fills your barrier to 100% (if specced at rank 6, 50% if not).
    3. The Vanguard shouldn't need an accurate weapon for long range as attempting to fight at range is wasting your abilities.

The best way to utilize a Vanguard is Biotic Charge and Nova. Charge in, fire off a shot or melee, hit Nova, and by now the Charge will be off cooldown so you can hit that to refill your barrier, rinse and repeat. With this strategy, you don't want to have to reload your gun in the middle of a group of enemies, the Scimitar works best because you can do this 8 times before finding cover to reload.

just as a heads up to everyone; DON'T equip the Scorpion on your second playthrough when on mars. If you do you get stuck at the battle with EVA. The pistol cant fire quick enough to kill her and you will get stuck at that checkpoint and have to restart the whole mission

I have a question and I don't know where else to turn.

I want to save both Eve and Midorn (or however his name is spelt.) but I didn't play ME2. Is it at ALL possible for them both to survive? I'm really going to be sad if I can't. They were so cute. I and I really liked his quirky sense of humor.

and before you ask, no I am not OMGGAI! i am an OMGGIRL! So suck it, and just gimme a straight answer.
