Apple announced the new iPad, showing off the tablet device to the press and the internet world. The new iPad features a "retina display," 4G LTE internet and features the addition of Apple's new "virtual assistant" Siri. It will be available on March 16th; pre-orders start today.
Prices: $499, $599, and $699 for 16, 32, and 64GB. $629, $729, and $829 with 4G.
Apple head Tim Cook introduced the new device, saying, "the iPad is the poster-child of the post-PC world.”
Here's what we know about the Apple iPad HD:
- "Retina display" Much higher definition that previous display. 264 pixels per inch, better than 1080p, according to Apple. Better color saturation. Color saturation improved by 44 percent
- iSight Camera: 5-megapixel backside illuminated sensor on the back, 5-element lens, IR filter, and ISP built into the A5X chip. 1080p Video capable with built-in stabilization.

- Voice Dictation: This new iPad feature allows you to instantly record your voice, and yes, that means Siri.
- 4G LTE capable: AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Bell, and Telus will be LTE parnters. LTE speeds up to 73Mbps.
- World 3G: According to Cook, whichever carrier you use, you can "roam anywhere? around the world."
“We’ve sold almost 15.5 million iPads last quarter alone," Cook said, "We sold more iPads in the last quarter alone than any PC manufacturer sold in their entire line.”
- NEWS: Apple TV Goes HD
Cook also said that the iPad is a "favorite for gamers," with many choosing it over consoles. Is this a shot across the bow at the gaming industry?
These are the bare facts on the new iPad, but if you want, deep, meaningful analysis, you have to tune into Attack of the Show at 7 PM ET. A host of Apple experts will be on hand to tell you what the new iPad will mean to you.

I only really need two things. I don't want to convert my files to the mediocrity that is mp4 or mov. Add ogg, mkv, flac, ac3, and 10-bit native decoding, and allow for some kind of memory upgrade option then we'll talk. To not include a SD or any other type of memory slot is just lazy and insulting. Even if it would be proprietary, I wouldn't mind. Truly "Planned Obsolescence" at its finest.

@pitch154- to put it mildly...yes. The new ipad will run games that will graphically look as good if not better then the vita. My only thing is the price tag. For all the bells and whistles, you're looking at 829 bucks. So after taxes, we're talking anywhere from 900 and up. Which in my opinion, if it is that expensive, then it should be even better then any laptop on the market, and offer way more then just mobility. So if you're not looking to spend that kind of money, and have no other use for a device like that except for gaming and other media, and maybe email. ThenI would suggest people stick to purchasing a Vita.

Question I have is, how should it compare graphically to the Vita? Will its graphical capabilities be the same or even better? Dont know much about specs or whatever so Im really curious. I know both run Quad Core processors but Im not exactly sure how that would be telling towards its graphical capabilities. So, will the Ipad 3/HD be able to run games better graphically than the Vita?

The Asus Transformer Prime is still a better tablet. Don't need my tablet or phone to talk to me. So other than paying for an apple, 4g logo. there is nothing new here.

you have got to be kidding me, favorite among gamers? gamer is not someone who plays apps with no story and no dedication to it, just because you play a lot does not mean you are gamer and saying apple is for gaming? no one wants to make their games support those over priced pieces of crap

Every company has their own "pad" now and each one has like 1 unique feature between them all, we just need to wait for the older pads to drastically drop in price or wait for the technology to get better

Its beging to show that Jobs isent at the helm anymore :(
Apple is going down the same road they did last time Jobs was gone, just sad that this time Jobs is gone for good :(

Well that was disappointing. I bought my wife a iPad 2 for Christmas and that is a great tool. We hardly use the laptop anymore. But come on I'm not ponying up $500 more for these very minor changes. Love the Apple products but not for minor changes and additions.

Not hating on Apple. But all you Apple "experts", give a real reason spend all that money on a slightly better device every 1-2 years. Especially when there are equally products for less money.

Love reading all these anti-apple posts from the clueless fandroids.

this still cant replace a laptop

All apple does now is think of everything is should have and cut stuff out and break it down in stages. So every 1-2 yrs you gotta pay another 500+ dollars just to get 2-3 new features. Business wise cleaver but morally wrong. Tablets still for me lack alot even with everything they have.

Yea the Ipad will never go anywhere the only thing apple will do good with is the iphone and tht is going down too if they dnt start putting some serious hardware into their phone

WOW another overpriced apple product thats made in china and all they did was added a 4G logo. Are the drones in line yet?

So Siri, better camera, better screen quality and 4G. I think we're finally seeing that Apple can only make iterations to the iPad now as opposed to making something ground-breaking. Didn't upgrade to iPad2, and I can't really see any reason to upgrade to this one either (already have Siri on the 4S).
Plus who really uses the camera on the iPad for anything serious? And I'm pretty sure Angry birds will run just as well on iPad 1 as iPad 3. I mean how many games really need a quad core processor on a tablet?
