Apple announced the new iPad, showing off the tablet device to the press and the internet world. The new iPad features a "retina display," 4G LTE internet and features the addition of Apple's new "virtual assistant" Siri. It will be available on March 16th; pre-orders start today.
Prices: $499, $599, and $699 for 16, 32, and 64GB. $629, $729, and $829 with 4G.
Apple head Tim Cook introduced the new device, saying, "the iPad is the poster-child of the post-PC world.”
Here's what we know about the Apple iPad HD:
- "Retina display" Much higher definition that previous display. 264 pixels per inch, better than 1080p, according to Apple. Better color saturation. Color saturation improved by 44 percent
- iSight Camera: 5-megapixel backside illuminated sensor on the back, 5-element lens, IR filter, and ISP built into the A5X chip. 1080p Video capable with built-in stabilization.
- Voice Dictation: This new iPad feature allows you to instantly record your voice, and yes, that means Siri.
- 4G LTE capable: AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Bell, and Telus will be LTE parnters. LTE speeds up to 73Mbps.
- World 3G: According to Cook, whichever carrier you use, you can "roam anywhere? around the world."
“We’ve sold almost 15.5 million iPads last quarter alone," Cook said, "We sold more iPads in the last quarter alone than any PC manufacturer sold in their entire line.”

Cook also said that the iPad is a "favorite for gamers," with many choosing it over consoles. Is this a shot across the bow at the gaming industry?

Ok Apple Droids, who will defend anything apple. Nothing about the ipad 3 is bad, I actually own an IPAD. But thanks to a little thing like Data caps with wireless carriers today, the features of the ipad will make for a way too expensive phone bill each month if you guys aren't careful. Do the math, 73mbps at 4G speeds sounds cool. But how much data will I have once I decide to try and download a 1080p movie over my cloud service?? I will literally be over my data package in less then a half hour of use. The device is powerful to say the least, but with greedy service providers, I will be charged an arm and a leg just to enjoy it's full potential. Because they don't tell you that Wi-Fi isn't 4G fast. So if you don't even have the 4G model, you're basically looking at a more up to date IPAD2, because it's biggest improvments can only be seen through 4G speeds.

I hate hippies more than any thing. Cry me a damn river! If the IPAD was made in the U.S. that damn thing would cost more than it is worth. Money and hard work are in the eye of the beholder. I have worked 42 hours straight in the military and no one cride for me. If that is all you know then that is life. You can't help were you are born! Don't put all the blame on Apple.

I can find a tablet that's cheaper than the iPad 4G 32GB, with the same amount of space, plus a USB port, HDMI port, mini-USB port, and an SD slot. Plus you can replace the battery without sending it in to the manufacturer. All that for a Toshiba Thrive 10.1" (display) 32GB 4G tablet $559.99 vs iPad 9.7" (display) 4G 32GB for $729. Why buy an overpriced tablet with less features than other tablets, specially ones that are actually worth the money? iPad isn't worth spending more for, for less features. I like the idea of using an SD card to extend the amount of space I can use, the idea of being able to plug-in a USB Thumb/Flash Drive, and even connecting to an HDMI port on a TV. I'll take the Toshiba Thrive tablet. Apple hasn't convinced me to buy their products yet, not with those prices.

Anyone happen to know if the new iPad was made by Foxconn? If you aren't aware, Foxconn has made a number of electronic devices, and has very interesting ideas of what's ethical in the work place: 35 hour work days, pays less than 50 cents an hour, put nets up around to place to catch suicide jumpers, etc.
Apple has originally commented that they would not work with a company like this... even though they have for their previous devices. So has that changed for this new iPad?

Idiots is right. Who's going to pay that much when they can get a better laptop for the same price? Trust me, nobody thinks you're cool for wasting money on products with an Apple logo. In fact, people like myself look down on you instead.
It boggles the mind to think they're still selling anything. It's not a phone, not a PC, not a console, will be rereleased in a year or two, and yet it costs more than all the above.

Awesome. Hatters will hate on it and, people who've never used one will not get it. The rest of us will continue to enjoy our iPads. My original iPad has served me very well these past two years, and I know that my kids are ready and waiting for it. Can't wait for my new iPad!
