The box art for Assassin's Creed 3 has been released, and as we expected, it shows off the setting of the next AC game. It's Colonial America. The Assassin's Creed 3 image shows off the game's protagonist about lay down a massive tomahawk chop on what looks a lot like a Revolutionary War Redcoat soldier. Here's a look at another Assassin's Creed 3 picture in which the American Revolution setting is obvious.
I think there's a LOT of potential here, and my personal "OMG!" meter just peaked.
I've posted the entire box under the "Read More" tag.

Assassin's Creed 3 is slated for release on October 30, 2012.

i am disappointed because between the roman times with Ezio and now jumping quite a big jump into the future to the revolutionary war, i mean there were plenty of time periods they could have chosen between the 2 that would have been a better choice at this time than the revolutionary war! seriously Ubisoft! but i can't complain still looks like a great game!

I didn't like this setting. I thought it was not good AT ALL. I thought victorian london was a much better city and time period. So when i read this article, i can say that i was thoroughly disappointed. I was avidly against it and when i saw the first art, i thought like the other art, that it was only teasing the ideas, and then they would reveal the new, actual setting. Now that they have revealed the setting to be exactly the same as the other art, i thought that was stupid. The art should have been to TEASE ideas. Not actually announce anything. But other than the nitpicking, i am now somewhat excited, as the setting has its problems, but its advantages.
First off, i find it impossible for the character to be native american. Now, in no way do i mean to say that native americans are better or worse than ANYONE, i am saying that based on desmond's bloodline, it is impossible. On his one parent's side is altair, who was an arabic assassin who is the father of the new assassin's order, that was then put into secrecy under his establishment. Then, on another side of his parents (the exact sides were not specified, but it is known that the assassins are in both of his blood line, and that ezio and altair have some, but vague correlation to each other, but come from different sides of desmond's bloodline.) comes ezio, an italian renaissance man. In no way can he be native american, as native americans are dated back to be about 16,000 years in america, and by then the Bering Strait existed. There was no land mass past that time. It would be very, VERY inaccurate to use his heritage as native american. I think that the protagonist will work WITH them, as their tactics are very useful to assassin culture, but not be a native american.
My next gripe is with the setting itself. It would have to have 2 or 3 cities, and some countryside/woodland area. Due to the fact that most of the famous figures involved on the side of the americans were in the actual military [ for example: Marquette de Lafayette, Baron von Steuben, Benedict Arnold (yes, he helped the americans before leaving the cause for his love) and of course, George Washington) and wouldn't really be in the actual ability to see them, unless one of the country side camps is valley forge near brandywine. The other major players in the war were Sam Adams and John Hancock, who were delegates at the continental congress. They would be able to be seen. Then we have Ben Franklin, who was Ambassador to France. Now the story would be very good, but they would need a way to see those people, as they were crucial to the american victory. The other problem with the setting would be that the buildings aren't very recognizable. Places that would have historical impact at the time would be the setting of the Boston Massacre, Old North Church (Paul Revere AND William Dawes ride), Independence Hall (Place where Second Continental Congress met to create the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutional Convention to make, guess what, the Constitution) and Carpenter's hall (place where first continental congress met to deal with the Intolerable Acts in Boston. Now i may be incorrect, but i believe the olive branch petition was also created there.) Now, those are the only places that i can think of. The rest would have to be filler, and i don't think that those alone could make compelling places to free run. I mean, you can't just have a million churches to synchronize on, do you know how stupid that would be?
Those are the major problems with the game. The good things that would come out of it is a great, and i mean GREAT story. It fits the franchise perfectly. The ideals set by the Free Masons and Founding Fathers (Yeah, the free masons were GOOD you conspiracy nuts!) and how the templars and assassins would be secretly fighting all around. The next good thing would be the great gameplay that comes out of that. Tomahawks, guns (it can work if they do it well, so i wouldn't count it out just yet) and other things. It would be great fun, and keep me interested for however long. Now, they have also announced that the franchise wouldn't end, but the current story will. So now, they would have complete freedom to do what they want with the franchise. So here here to this game being as good as AC 1, 2, and Brotherhood (I personally thought that revelations was underwhelming) and for the next game to be in a great setting. (Victorian London, French Revolution, or Daniel Cross/Nikolai Orlov anyone?)

Hope it will be better than Revelations

super excited for this game. i hear so many peoples say they gave up on revelations after just a few hours well that was a huge mistake, i do admit the beg. was a lil slow but after the story grew the game in my mind turned out to be epic. it was incredible the time period travel and the different 3 character stories..I really think that they are onto something serious with this game. everyone is throwing out what they think just from the supposible cover art etc..If the character does turn out to be native american which i personally think he may just be of that culture but not necessarily an actual n.a. but either way this could be the best assassin character yet and i cant wait.

Everyone does know the American Revolution and the American Civil War are two different time periods, right?

Excited about this! AC has been one heck of a story! Excited to see how this storys going to be awesome! so many possibilities! cant wait for them to make the announcement on monday!!!

I think this has huge potential, think about it. Back then the Mansions where huge and there's always been skepticism that there connected with the templers. I think the story line will be epic. and personalty i hope they some day make one set in 1940's, itler was doing a sorts of crazy stuff looking for artifacts i bet the could twist something sick out of that

i think its an interesting period in time, but i dont think its correct for the Assassins Creed gameplay.
a big issue is the buildings, there were forts during the revolution, that could be interesting, but i dont see alot of buildings that one could climb. it would have to be in a big city like boston or
new york, it also would be interesting to see how the Assassins and Templars had an impact of the war, who knows maybe George Washington and Ben Franklin were Assassins or hell maybe they were templars that would certainly be an interesting (but hard) twist to the storyline. it seems like it will be a tough one to make into a interesting story and setting, but im still looking forward to it

Oh dont forget people if this game is going to go with the story of the revelutionary war then that would meen that there will be several enstallments for this new assasin because the war lasted for a long time.

Angelicsin87

Honestly, I hate this idea. I've heard the rumors about AC3 taking place in America and I was instantly disgusted. Yes, I can see the possibilities of investigating the corruption of colonial America. But what I do not like is that I can already see the assassin aspect of this game leaving, a tomahawk, and a bow, has anyone noticed a hidden blade? I just do not see this game being as stealthy and elaborate as the other games. I just think that Ubisoft is taking leap of faith here (get it?) and I'm not so sure I'll catch them. If they work it out, props, but I haven't seen anyone get close.
mksystem74
It's awesome and disappointing at the same time. I can't really explain it. I think it might be the least beautiful world out of the games, but I could be wrong.
Trityler
What's the biggest biulding I could climb back then?
omit_2
Stupid They really should have keep it in Europe.

I think I just had a huge nerdgasm.

I can't believe I am a little disappointed... I had though it was going to be Desmond kicking @ss but it looks like I was wrong. Just give me a while to accept this and I will be excited yet again!
monkeygernade
idk, i feel it would be more difficult to do a story in the us. the story was good for revelations but the re-play value was low, maybe it would be more interesting to have the next story in the states?

I'm super pumped for this and I was hoping for American or French Revolution for the AC3, but I'm worried the architecture of Colonial America might not be big enough for Assassin caliber climbing and leaps of faith and what not..... Just a minor concern. I guess there where bell towers and what not??? Still seems like there won't be as cool of buildings to climb.
I have faith that Ubi will take care of this in a cool way. Sneaking through forests and destroying red coats seems awesome. The guerrilla style warfare that the colonist used will go well with assassin's blade based combat. Dream come true. Go America!!!
